    HQ FoI !

It's an unincorporated business and its me that processes all of this type admin. Once we'd been rejected for the first support scheme, it actually re-focused my moral compass a bit. Despite the loss of income, we didn't actually need any support as we are very lucky to have other income/assets, reasoning the support should go to those who actually need it. Pity HQ doesn't appear have his compass similarly aligned.

    HQ FoI !

We have a holiday let business, which was my wifes main form of income prior the pandemic. We applied for the initial £3000 support when we lost all of our bookings in March 2020. Qualified under the criteria the DfE set, so applied, but you had to provide your tax reference as part of the application.... but it was actually Treasury who made the final decision as it was their support scheme and they decided we didn't qualify... They didn't state so, but clearly they means tested on basis of our joint other income and the tax reference we provided. Fair enough, and we didn't push or argue it on the basis that it would be utilised better for people who really needed it, people who had lost their "primary" income source. This should have also applied to multi-millionaire Quayle, and it shows the mark of the man that someone who would appear to be able to easily absorb the losses still chose to take from the public purse. I don't know the detail and maybe doing him a disservice, but the optics certainly are damning. Earning £100,000 a year for 5 years as CM, being on a "gold-plated" government pension and then claiming £57k in assistance when you have millions in property assets....
  3. Precisely this. Which is what I've been arguing till I'm blue in the face on here! Which is why Crogga should be granted the 18m licenxce extension to do the 3D seismic survey. Of course there are only certain times of the year the surveying can be done due to DEFA regulations regarding the "herring spawning season" You know, for all those herring that we no longer catch, and get a license fee of £700 each from 2 Northern Irish fishing boats for the right to catch any that stray into our waters. Utter madness. The potential investigation of the size of the field which could be worth £Billions of revenue held up for a few herring.
  4. Exploiting our natural gas resource and the revenue that could generate IMHO could lead the Island to the holy grail of clean energy independence. Why is that a big deal? Elimination of geo-political risk, stable prices & ultimately everything is reliant on energy.
  5. Where's all the bio-mass coming from? How does it get here? Harbour upgrade needed? Per unit of energy produced biomass emits more CO2 natural gas does. We have a local resource that if utilised can pay for all of the transition. Oh, and provide energy security throughout.
  6. It's referring to the 2014 report, not latest studies/estimates.
  7. but who wants to go to Holyhead?! 2 hour drive Holyhead to Liverpool, there's not much in it in terms of overall journey time Dublin to Liverpool. Liverpool-Dublin both destinations in themselves, so maybe the market is there both ways? Dublin to Holyhead - 61nm Irish ferries claiming Dublin Swift does it in 2hrs 15mins Dublin to Liverpool - 123nm So roughly 4hrs 30mins to Dublin-Liverpool. which is only 15mins more than ferry to Holyhead then driving.... Sail 6:00hrs arrive 10:30hrs - Return 20:00hrs arrive 00:30hrs ? That's a long day trip, but possible?! Both ways with another vessel! Perhaps not economic though as going fast burns lots of fuel!
  8. Not coming to IOM ! a new fast craft Dublin-Liverpool route!!
  9. Coming to an agreement with Irish Ferries for its seasonal fast craft to use the facility for a Liverpool-Dublin run would help. Of course, non of the other Irish Ferries will fit in the new landing stage. Would have been high on my list of things to discuss prior to the outset of this project, would they consider sharing the cost of the build? usage of the site? Maybe they did, and Irish Ferries weren't interested...

    COP21

they voted to review/update the 2014 strategy on offshore energy generation, with Comin to report to Tynwald by June2022. I think... However, Crogga only have a 4 month extension to their existing license, and a decision will have to be made to extend this further before June2022. Tynwald shysters are giving themselves a handy excuse to kick the can down the road for the gas field development. £8 BILLION solves a whole lot of fucking issues, transition to renewables/low carbon within the self imposed timeframe to 2050 being the biggest, and it would be absolute total fucking lunacy if they don't at least give Crogga the additional 18 months security they need to do the seismic surveying to assess likely recoverable reserves (find out how much is there!)

    A Plan

vision2020-leaflet.pdf (gov.im) The 2013 waffle/plan. Wonder if anyone ever analysed its conjectures....
  12. Well, IIRC there's a big loan (c£300/400m?) from treasury to mua (£95m was written off a couple of years ago) which a notional interest rate is charged. But on top of that loan, there's an additonal £240m of treasury bonds (around 5.6%) issued which mua have to repay (though they are building a fund to do this) a chunk in 2030 and remaining chunk in 2036. They could of course refinance. Not looked at it for a while but no-one could ever tell me who owned those T-Bonds..
  13. A rare thing, a fella admitting he's crap at driving.😉
  14. WFT is a Change and Engagement Manager? I'm sure they're all lovely people, but these are just non-jobs, what on earth can they do on a day to day basis? total waste of taxpayers funds IMHO.
  15. Well they have painted on tarmac for one crossing heading north after broadway and it stands out much more clearly than the block paved efforts..
  16. I've briefly looked and there's nothing in Manx highway code about unmarked crossings that I can see. It seems to think that pedestrian crossings are either zebra or light controlled. If it's not one of these, then it's just road decoration. At least that's what I'd be arguing - how is it different to those fecking stupid celtic cross designs in St Johns, that were eventually removed, but tragically too late.
  17. Yeah, the problem is drivers/pedestrians don't know who's right of way it is on unmarked crossing? Zebra crossing is clear, drivers have to wait for pedestrians. Unmarked? Anyone?
  18. Just embarrassing, in such a small airport there really is no excuse what-so-ever for the hold baggage not to arrive within 15mins of the plane arriving on stand. It's not like they have miles to travel. It's one of the two main ports of entry, how difficult can it possibly be to make arrivals a smooth, pleasant and welcoming experience? First impressions are so important....
  19. Difficult one this, but for Government to clear and re-wild the site would cost the taxpayer a few million surely? First have to buy the site from the owners , then demolish/remove asbestos, and then landscape. Now their plans have been frustrated, it will sit derelict for another 10 years, which IMHO would be worse than it being developed, under different proposals.
  20. Look forward to trying to book my car on Loganair. What a fucking stupid comment from Jez. Weather (especially fog) effects planes too dickhead.
  21. It's so late in the day with so much spent that they have no option other than to approve it. I'd be gobsmacked if they don't.
  22. It will accelerate the move to renewables because the funds will be available to invest in them and won't have to be borrowed or taxation raised to pay for it.
  23. Correct. Government are not being asked in any way, shape or form to fund this. At the moment all they're being asked to do is to extend a licence they've already granted for 3 years by another year and half, due to the extenuating,:extraordinary circumstances during those 3 years. That's it.
  24. 20pc for extractive industries.
