  1. Do wealthy people actually contribute that much more to the economy than the rest of us? Some may be employers (not that many though) and other than that all they do is manage the turn over of expensive property between themselves. However, there could still be a level of IHT and CGT that would still make the Island an attractive place to reside above the UK.
  2. I would imagine that the debts will relate to the business office account and not the client account. There are very strict rules about use of client account money in law firms and any abuse is potentially a strike off and possiby jail time
  3. You aren't comparing like with like they are under different sets of legislation. Why not check out employment tribunal payouts in the UK for a better comparison
  4. I get your intonation and agree but I would say that the Island does consider its tourism industry to be important and a review of the 1975 Act would be beneficial to the Govt.
  5. Yep the 1975 Tourist Act (remember the tourist industry the Island use to have?) ensures that all tourist accommodation has to be Govt registered. TBH it could do with an overhaul but it means someone finding the time and inclination,
  6. Not strictly true. NEC contracts can have X clauses (options) and Z clauses (additional cluses) which are agreed betwen the parties. There will always be a fairly substantial heads of terms as well.
  7. Tim Glover showing himself to be a good stone thrower but , as like most MHK's, not capable of shouldering responsibility or turning things around
  8. Thanks Roger I'm aware of that. The land was Crown Estate and conveyed under a very large transfer of land to the IOMG not long after WW2 The references to it being common land remain moot. You say something often enough and for long enough and people take it as fact, just like the fictional gentleman I refer to in my post. People also mistake the term common land as land upon which you can do almost anything which is also a fiction. Rights of common are specific.
  9. There was no gentleman unless his name was Crown Estate
  10. He was head to head with Liz Smith also from the AG’s Chambers. They were both interviewed for the post quite a while back. It seems the deliberations have taken quite some time.
  11. To be so cavalier about other people’s lives and well being is truly shocking etc…
  12. Man jumps up and down about statistical non issue Meanwhile every 20 minutes in the UK someone is injured by an uninsured driver.
  13. A responsible cyclist would be bemused at the introduction of mandatory cycle insurance as insurance is risk based and cycling just doesn’t represent the risk to justify insurance.
