  1. Missed a big chance. Should have had extra stock shelved late evening after closing, and so staff not trying to refill by day. Has been a shop to avoid.
  2. Easyjet Gatwick just got in
  3. The referendum thought bubble is so: - Alf can wash his political hands of issue … ‘the people have spoken ‘ etc etc - So the outcome can be skewed with a poor or misleading question - The hounds of bigots and religious bigotry can be given free rein
  4. This airport seriously does my head in. First visit that I need to use parking for a couple of days so finally went to download RingGo app. Nope. Blocked because my Apple ID is not from IoM or UK. More confirmation that this island (and the services chosen) want to screw visitors. And yes, before the usual suspects chime in, I know I can go to website, register etc. And that will repeatedly tell me to download the app. #facepalm
  5. Maybe I should rename it: compulsory attendance. You can choose not to vote. You just can’t be lazy.
  6. Can’t agree - that is something altogether and would go to how people nominate to stand, or in this case, how the wording of a referendum is crafted. Compulsory voting is about dealing with laziness and apathy. It does result in higher engagement
  7. It’s long overdue for a serious discussion about compulsory voting - especially if this referendum happens. People can still opt to spoil their vote (that is their right), they just can’t be lazy sods and not bother voting. It works.
  8. Port Erin is now rebranded. Tesco over the door.
  9. ATC issues still happening at airport. Get on Aer Lingus flight, ready to go. Nothing. Pilot came on to say they had to sit for 15 mins waiting for ATC. This must drive airlines mad - they need quick turnarounds.
  10. The road between Dublin and Belfast was improved about 20 years ago. But Alf just catching up …
  11. IoM authorities have a sad failure to realise that transparency is always better than secrecy
  12. An example of nothing learnt …
  13. The days of Twitter removing abuse and other rubbish are long gone
  14. Ditto for my mum’s application last week.
  15. I stood on a green tree frog in Australia but he survived the ordeal. Usually they are found lurking in the toilet bowl
  16. Regardless of ownership, good luck to anyone on the boat this weekend- will be rocking and rolling in Storm Kathleen (or cancelled …)
  17. There are other shops and the library whose patrons use same car park
  18. Glad to report that Port Erin is still standing, despite Shoprite’s closure/transformation (they were working on site today - dedication on holiday weekend). Co-op is busy and still too small, but the populace is being fed and will no doubt flock to Tesco in due course.
  19. The whole medical appointments by letter thing is just rather quaint. It is also totally out of step with most other developed countries. Time for the island to move forward - email and sms reminders for vast majority. Opt out option for dwindling luddites.
  20. There is a myth that Air BnB is the ‘sharing’ economy ie you have a visitor staying in your home. The vast majority of AirBnB are now full property lets where you never meet the owner. They have wreaked havoc in cities worldwide hollowing out local communities. There is a reason places like Amsterdam have legislated. Too many rentals that locals would have lived in have been lost. Be careful what you wish for.
  21. Your challenge will be not just to get the material taken off the media site, but you have to get it removed from Google. Otherwise it will still appear in name search for instance, even if the link is dead
  22. Seriously. Go and have a strong cup of tea and a sit down.
  23. Airport Facebook page has post on how they are taking a strategic approach to fix current ATC issues. A long term strategic approach. Read it and weep. Oh and they have turned off comments on it too. A Friday night post and run exercise.
  24. The most bizarre security rule I have seen recently was at Stansted - you were supposed to take hair dryers or straighters out of hand luggage at the scanner. I ignored it and my dryer sailed through in my bag
