considering that most of the population dont need a permit manx or non manx, that is rather a silly statement lol think before you post dribble.

Did I not see posted on here that 10000 permit applications were processed last year,if true its one hell of a slice of the Manx Cake.

What a great idea, revoke peoples permits so manx workers can take their places, if/when the economy picks up/ these manx workers move back into jobs more suited, we'll just say we're giving out permits again and they'll all come flooding back, just hoping they can get 5 years in, before their new permits are revoked.

A sound plan indeed.

If we are going on to the fairness of the permit system I note not many comment on the fact that if a Manx person goes and buys himself a far eastern or eastern European wife then she automatically gets a work permit whereas a person who has been here for say 4 years and contributed into the system still has to fight for a permit, in my view even if a person is a spouse of a Manx worker they should still need a full permit for the first 5 years, that would make things a bit fairer.

McArds have now paid off all their cards in men, Kinrade scaffold have put their men on notice. Another firm have brought joiners and bricklayers in from UK to build First time buyers houses in Foxdale and Braddan resulting in Brick Thech IOM and Jones Joiners IOM having to pay men off. The DTI have issued permits for these UK firms as specialist Bricklayers and Joiners.

Mr Cretney they are laying blocks and erecting kit houses, whats going oo, Airport again.

You seem to be defiantly avoiding the point that construction is all about people moving around over significant distances to wherever the next job is. People in construction have typically expected to work away for months at a time. That was traditionally part of how people made money.

Also that any economy, especially one in trouble, needs workers at a competitive price.

Except in a boom you should be expecting to have to look further afield for work. That is the reality of the construction business.

You will not be subject to work permit restrictions in the UK - why should UK workers be subject to restrictions here ?

thats a real shame, i used to work with Martin the boss of bricktech, and he is a top class bricklayer they would not be bringing people over who were better than him im sure, ive got an idea lets put all the local tradesmen on the dole, sick ect. Then they will claim fiss income sopport sick pay ect and be a drain on the economy.... nice one cretney you are a first class tit. Hope he gets voted out.

Maybe the Manx workers are not skilled enough?

Give most construction workers here a brick and they look at it with a quizzical expression. A bricklayer is far more skilled than a block layer.

And as has been said before, professional construction workers travel to the job with a reputation; hence the brickies 'travelling' from across.
