woolley
I disagree with that. In large business it's unusual to find incompetents at the top end as that does not make sense, it's only government where it's commonplace. Probably at a ratio of 1 in 4 . It is, however, quite common to find competents in large businesses who are paid way beyond their abilities or any contribution they make to the company. Huge reward for failure along Fred Goodwin lines is also commonplace. Shareholders should sort out executive pay as it has been left largely to the beneficiaries themselves to set their own remuneration. They do so by benchmarking against similar organisations and they just keep ratcheting it up.
notwell
It would be interesting to know what her pay was as well, given that she held a managerial position (and we all know what some of these government positions can pay). He must have been some catch for her to put her seat on the gravy train at risk... Just like a lot of the pen pushing dead-heads you have to interface with around IOMG when paying for services or filing forms. In this case we paid £30k a year for some dosser - apparently with a massive coke habit. It's just shows you that often you're wrong to tell your kids to get educated so that they can get a good job! Just do the minimum, get yourself a council house, cultivate a drug habit, and the shit recruitment processes at IOMG will have you on £30k a year regardless because nobody will recruit anyone who ever poses a threat to anyone else in the system. It's not a 30k job. The package will be nearer 45k with us supporting that ridiculous pension scheme.
thesultanofsheight
I know a few substance abusers, and more than a few high functioning alcoholics, who have held down pretty well paid jobs with various government departments over the years. All most of them have to do is turn up for work and try not to fall over in front of the staff.

thesultanofsheight
Really???? A thousand civil servants are drunk in the woody most lunchtimes. Takings must be good:whatever: To be fair you could probably add the Prospect and the Rovers. I hear the Woody is only usually for the lazy twats at Home Affairs who can stagger back to Holmfield. It's too far out for any of the others to be arsed during lunch hour.
woolley
Did you know that some government offices are ridiculously busy and the staff don't even have time to turn around? Such places DO exist.

finaldestination
http://www.three.fm/news/isle-of-man-news/court-thief-will-pay-back-out-of-pension-pot/ I assume this is a private pension? Surely if convicted of this type of offence you would be dismissed and lose your Government pension?
