As was oft-discussed on here, the extra width between the north-bound and south-bound tracks (supposedly to accommodate the width of the MER tramcars) had to come from somewhere. Despite the denials at the time (more lies), that space was taken from the width of the road carriageways and the parking spaces. So unless the MER is actually going to run on the prom, the space has been wasted, it's now just redundant space either side of each horsetram route.

It really didn't. It could have been re-done as it was or just scrapped. It was only to accommodate an anorak's wet dream.

Anyone know where all these cycles have suddenly appeared from?, some look as though they have not been used for a while.

Is it a cut price version of the London bike hire network?.

Walked along the prom this morning and saw all this for the first time ,Dozens of old bikes  some complete some with parts missing  chained to every post along the Queens prom  into central prom area . Total disgrace whatever it is meant to be. Either some hooligans have vandalised the area or somebody in some sort of  public position thinks it is smart . Either way it need being cleared , If someone thinks it is some sort of art then I think they are totally mad ,Goodness knows the prom is such a total mess anyway its as if they have competitions to see how much more ridiculous they can make it .  Horse trams causing stupid hold ups along the prom, Horse shite everywhere , rusty old bike frames fixed to road signage , No crossing points ,at northern end of prom , crossing points that no one understands along Loch prom , A horse drawn tram that goes from nowhere to nowhere,  Welcome to our Capitol City .

He's obviously the person who insisted on the twin tracks in the middle of the Prom roadway, as they were in the olden days before traffic!

Our government were too frightened that he may leave them with a bus network that they couldn't handle to argue. Now we have a bus network that we can't handle.

My recollection of Longworth's statement that horse trams do not cause the hold-up came from looking at the data from the buses -  the time they took to transit the prom. This is an unrealistic comparison because buses stop at bus stops. So if a bus comes up behind a tram, it will soon stop at a bus stop. Meanwhile, the horse tram disappears off into the distance. By the time the bus gets going again, it will not catch up with the horse tram again so its transit time is unaffected by the trams.

Well, that's my analysis.

They were taken away by a couple of blokes this afternoon. Some in pieces...

A horse with a horn. That would slow the traffic down and focus the attention of the pedestrians.

It would, I once asked Robert Maddrel why he kept referring to one horse as tripod. He just smiled and said think about it. One hell of a man, sadly missed
