At the moment there is more margin in selling vinyl then there is on downloading. Certain newspapers too will have buyers at any reasonable price if the content and editorial standards are good. The internet is just full of low brow easily accessible crap. It’s a race to the bottom. There is no future for downloads. Today people subscribe to streaming services. Vinyl is an affectation today. Like flat caps and hipster beards. No long term future. The Times and the FT are doing well as subscription phone content. I doubt they will still be printing paper editions a decade from now. And local newspapers will go the way of radio and tablets - like how the iPad was big a decade ago but is now increasingly just for old people. What about the explosion of online radio station availability? I have Downtown Radio Craigavon on most days. Couldn't get it before tinterweb. Do you get out much? It's effectively a streaming service for old people which also happens to do a bit of FM. Do you ever buy anything they advertise? Economics. But record companies are making good margin out of physical formats people are prepared to pay a premium for. Newspapers longer term will be no different. If the quality is good and the content unique people will pay to access on various formats. It’s not inconceivable to think that in 10 years time a paper newspaper delivered to your door might become ‘cool’ like dropping a vinyl LP onto a turntable is now. There is no money in printing newspapers. They're not coming back. Vinyl is an affectation.

Newspapers will come back too in time. https://www.forbes.com/sites/billrosenblatt/2018/09/18/vinyl-is-bigger-than-we-thought-much-bigger/ Nothing in that article contradicts what I am saying. And relatively few buy their print edition today.

Subscription streaming is how people listen to paid-for music now. Downloads were an intermediate technology and have now gone the way of CDs. All technology is intermediate and lasts until the next thing comes along and renders it obsolete.

The benefits of cassettes, cds, and downloads have been superseded by streaming.
display name
It seems vinyl accounts for just over £4 Million over the last 18 months. Saying that, streaming has accounted for just over £1.6 Billion. Poor musicians.

Though as that article is two months old, everyone may have now moved on the shellac. Or wax cylinders.
