On a similar note there's a story on IOM today where a young lass puts out a cry for help and ends up getting fined for her troubles!

It's not clear from the article what she was actually convicted of (possibly a traffic offence or not stopping when instructed).  But it's telling that the police took her "into custody due to concerns for her welfare".  Actually if you google her name you will find a number of convictions in the last year including for arson.  She clearly has severe mental health issues as well as a combination of self-destructiveness and attention seeking.  She's also clearly very irritating to deal with.

This is yet another case where the police seem to have been left to pick up the pieces of the failure of the mental health services to really engage with difficult cases.  While it's clear that stationing mental health nurses at Police HQ has helped a lot, it's basically an admission that the 'official' mental health system was failing to help so badly that other parts of government had to employ specialists just to get people into the system and provide 'first aid'.

In itself, absolutely, but Ms McGhee is no stranger to the Court and whatever her other issues she appears to be able to play the system like a fiddle.

Teenager's offences during three-week crime spree

Sounds like someone who has problems IMHO not a dangerous criminal. Most of that is for shouting and swearing at cops, getting pissed and making nuisance calls. Just sounds like a troubled person who can’t cope.

That report is hilarious

http://www.iomtoday.co.im/article.cfm?id=53253

So they chased a 17 year old girl on a moped through the streets of Douglas like Starsky and Hutch because she was troubled and actually didn’t throw herself off Douglas Head. Perhaps they were looking to talk to her in order to ascertain why she didn’t kill herself to see if they could do her for wasting police time or not?

That press report reads exactly like the script synopsis for a 1960s French art house comedy film.

I don't see how that prosecution was in the public interest.

You can't really blame the police for that - they had to arrest her for something to protect her (and possibly others) from herself.  Why the AG's Office decided to prosecute is a different matter, but the only thing they seem to be able to handle nowadays is this sort of low level stuff.

"Troubled person" often translates as scrote
