Well, when China enforced quarantines over millions of people it was seen as typical of the jackboot measures of a totalitarian state able to ride roughshod over its citizens. Something which could never be repeated in the west.

And now we have Italy doing exactly the same. Strange Times indeed.

Assuming China is telling the truth they're doing a pretty good job in controlling the spread, when you consider just how many people are there. Not hearing all that much about India, wonder how different things would be had it have started there.

Yes woody that's why Ive written it like that. They are total control freaks and may well be lying, although with it being global they do seem to be living up to the international obligations. Judging by the performance of Trump at the CDC the other day I'd be happier taking the chinese figures over anything provided by the US.

Pretty comprehensive and accessible information on the SARS-CoV-2 and Covid-19 here:

https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/03/dont-panic-the-comprehensive-ars-technica-guide-to-the-coronavirus/

It's interesting trying to think through some of the scenarios.

The Island is 80K people. If 1/3 get it that is 27K, if 20% are severe that's 5K cases likely needing medical support. 1% fatalities = 270 people.

The Island's death rate is 10.2 per 1,000 so usually there are 800 deaths or so per year, so that's a big increase - a 30% increase in yearly deaths.

The challenge is how to keep the number of people infected as low as possible.

I wonder what the number of admittances to Nobles is per year?  5K extra severe illnesses within a couple of months would swamp the place.
