Alex Bell of the BBC is claiming an EXCLUSIVE and reporting 5 people have been arrested and bailed regarding the Abbotswood disaster.

I hold issues with all this. Lets say something comes of it (I don't think it will), how on earth can anybody expect a criminal case of any description to be heard in the Isle of Man over this?

Any jury would already be tilted by controlled media reporting from the very start of it and even to this letter. The impression of some form of guilt has already been painted.

s she the DHSC CEO who has been in UK since March? Has she actually returned here? I had no idea she was boring and useless.

Edited to add: Sorry, just read Roger Mexico’s observations above. So Magson didn’t impress. Shame. That’s the hat-trick then...Charters, Couch, Magson. Each useless at best, a disaster at worst. If we cut them momentary slack and say they can’t help being crap (which I grant you is one hell of a lot of slack) what on earth is going on with the selection process? We know that Quayle chose Charters, so that was bound to be flawed but it seems that CEO selection is almost guaranteed to result in a duffer.

I have come to realise over the last 6 years or so that it isn't about who was appointed but rather who was not. The recruitment and retention strategy / policies (which of course also includes the internal promotions that are not so widely advertised)  have been dominated by poor decision making despite the quality of candidates that could have been available.

I believe that no one today is in a post or role that those in real control does not want to be there. It has been a little like moving pieces on the chess board. Many games and moves have been played.  Some loyal long serving staff who I know well have been ruthlessly treated and pushed aside.

All to no significant benefit. And no MHK's calling the DHSC to account.

Abbotswood management. I am familiar with what’s going on through DHSC friends and through evidence gathering the police are looking at two health and safety failings leading up to and during the COVID outbreak at the home caused by staff shortages, but not directly linked to mishandling of COVID itself (if that makes sense?). Piss poor by the rozzers and the reporting of it.

Sounds like Manx Solutions to a Manx Problem - followed by a ‘show trial’.

Are the local plod actually dealing with this or is the ‘evidence’ being sent to the U.K. for specialist advice?

I am glad it wasn’t all hidden and brushed under the carpet. We all remember the cries of “ gov won’t give us free masks” bollocks. Some great staff there who will no doubt be wrongly dragged in to cover others.

I don’t recall anyone asking for free masks, just asking for help with procurement and willing to pay for them.

From what I know through friends, former colleagues in healthcare and hearsay I’m not sure about the latter, unless of course it’s to cover a DHSC mess. Out of interest, does anyone know of any case similar in the UK where nursing home staff were arrested following a COVID outbreak?

I'd rather see facts be put out there than letters and interview comments designed to create emotive response but not actually containing much factual information.

Sorry, but ignorance is an excuse for nothing. Do you know much about it.

Well, an interesting and pertinent question. Tragically there were dozens and dozens of UK nursing/care homes who lost residents to Covid. No arrests that I’m aware of. So why here? What’s different - the performance of the home, zealous officialdom, or yet something else?

Gov strategy is to open up from end of March and have everyone vulnerable vaxxed by April, I heard that from Gov folk a few weeks back, the TT decision honestly came as a bit of a surprise to me when it happened.
