How so Derek. Surely if an income stream was there to be developed then it would be.

Agree with that.  The world has moved on and there's better places to be,for pleasure or business.

We kid ourselves about the “TT Factor”. The majority of the world neither know nor care about it.also surprising are the number of people you come across that still have no idea we exist, let alone where we are.

TT is great, but it really is a red herring which likely gets in the way of meaningful development of other income streams

How many Ramblers would pay £3300 for 5 nights stay in a Douglas seafront hotel? ( Check Ellan Vannin on Tripadvisor for that fact). Also, for years then ,many Publicans have been "kidding " me about the" TT factor"  i was astounded last year, when one TT course publican told me what his takings were during TT fortnight.

Douglas seafront hotels are largely superfluous nowadays, ramblers camp or stay in small b&bs in the smaller towns

Much of the prom could now be re-developed for housing so that the greenfields need not be built upon

i think Derek means that because the TT still works as intended for the most part nobody is looking too hard anywhere else.

We pay people in Government considerable amounts of money to find and develop these other income streams, in particular since the VAT reduction, 10 years ago now. We have yet to see one? The only thing that's happened is the TT has been exploited to within a hair's breadth of being unaffordable to its bread and butter fan base.

If there were any other income streams to be found and developed, surely they would have been by now with the amount of money we've thrown at it? To include trams and railways and associated salaries which still seem to post inordinate losses.

TT is absolutely not a red herring, is the best tourist draw we have and doesn't stop any other income stream.

There are many hundreds of businesses  that would be unlikely to survive without it.

It's also the best thing about the IOM, long may it continue.

The best thing about the IOM is an event stuck in the 70s that is guaranteed to kill and maim its entrants every year?

Wow that is something to put on the adverts I suppose.

Emphasis on the TT has deterred real development of tourism here, in my view

Looking for a bail out of 250 mil?

I wonder what the last Moody's credit rating and taking account of everything going on that'll cost a very great deal to obtain and service.

Surely the analogy is someone who can't manage to live on what he earns and facing further wage cuts

applying for a payday loan?

or,   it has been realised that there is no scope to develop anything else that can  bring in  £1000's for a 5 night stay in an average hotel and that the motorcycle racing is the foundation the rest of tourism is built on.  without the massive influx of money to certain sectors that the TT and MGP brings much of the tourist infrastructure wouldn't exist for others to use the rest of the year round.

The TT is detrimental to IOM tourism - it's very busy for up to ten days but kills a week of trading each side of it

Much of the tourism infrastructure that exists for the TT is just a waste of investment funding

There will be no tourism allowed for a year or more. People need to face up to that and government need to design 'mothball' support packages to last 2 summer seasons.

That includes furloughing private sector AND government management and workers in all these areas - including mothballing the horse teams - perhaps keeping the electric trams and steam railway going for locals for now, but only on the proviso they are used i.e. minimum passenger numbers should be set, or a skeleton service retained.
