  1. afaik - the cable is used a lot, for months at a time when the gast turbines are undergoing maintenance the Island runs solely on the interconnector cable, so it is crucial it is safeguarded. I don't know if there is much export these days, there used to be times in the day when the UK grid price was high that it was profitable to export for the peak demand, but not sure if that's still the case (will have to ask my mole !)
  2. in the words of the song "right down the middle"
  3. did anyone mention that their new pier crossed the power interconnector cable coming ashore at Port Skillion and so couldn't dredge it any deeper for their boats ?
  4. if someone want to build a hotel they find a site and raise the funds does a harbour facility have to be funded by government ? let private enterprise fund it if they believe their own hype
  5. get rid of these snake-oil salesmen, and definitely keep Skelly out of it. Saw recently that Oxford are planning to restrict walking tours in the city because they just clog up the streets
  6. Manannan seems to be back on song, just been out for a zoom around the bay at 30kt :-)

  10. Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Just now · *** Sailing Update – Issued at 11:37hrs*** Due to the rapid deterioration in the forecasted adverse weather, tonight's 19:45hrs sailing to Heysham and 02:15hrs sailing overnight from Heysham are subject to possible disruption / cancellation. 11. can survive a while on stores, it's just a squall it's probably the conditions at Heysham closing the port

  13. I wondered how a little field track to the shooting range which wasn't even 'a goer' when I was car rallying, I never knew it to have been used as a 'white' road, to become a tarmac road and used in the RallyIoM route :-o
  14. one article said she lived at Bishopscourt, another said a £120M pad at St Marks #confused
  15. I see BBC are planning to start switching off medium wave local radio transmitters, the present occupants of 1368KHz seem to be BBC Wiltshire (AM) 1368kHz BBC Lincolnshire (AM) 1368kHz BBC Surrey/Sussex (AM) 1368kHz Manx Radio (AM) 1368kHz so it will leave MR with a clearer frequency for UK listeners a cynic may say that they's be switching them off one at a time until someone notices they've gone
  16. Castletown Festival must be delighted at being only beaten by the TT for attendances (or is it the amount of trouble to the Police ?, maybe not so good repute)
  17. he does go on does " I should declare an interest" imply bias ?
  18. what's the betting if a licence was applied for the police would object they don't seem to think side-stepping by the organisers is a fair tactic !
  19. heaven forbid, volunteers would desert in droves if gov got their mits on it
  20. heaven knows where you would find that on the labyrinthian gov.im website, I've just spent ages trawling around and can't find any public notices in any menu or search :-( "Isle of Man, where you can't" you get as far as : click the 'maps on this site, you get : (and absence of a 'local information' icon)
  21. maybe someone said "when you're in a hole, stop digging"
  22. wasn't CC Roberts on leave when all this fiasco erupted whan the cat's away........ I just wonder about the Police's remit to judge whether an organisation is philanthropic or not, surely it's the responsibility of whoever decided on an organisation's legal status over 60 years ago
