  1. Of course there is, it's the TT feeding frenzy. I wouldn't have a problem with that if residents who have no choice but to use the service weren't caught up in the cross hairs !
  2. Our crossing out and return after TT in June is £762.00 ! I guess someone has to pay for the debt the operation is potentially loaded with now !
  3. Maybe she's taken lessons off Hooper where merely questioning his omnipotent judgement counts as vile abuse ! She should publish some of the comments ( Anon), to illustrate the depth of the problem, or if she thinks they are very serious report to the Police . It is difficult to opine on levels of abuse or indeed criticism until they are made public. These days you can get in bother for saying what your eyes see !
  4. We are all still paying for this twat and his board, and that alone is an impediment to our renewals ambitions !
  5. Thank god its raining again, my garden was looking parched !
  6. A saddening scenario I agree, you would however have to ask yourself who got him into this position if this became reality. It wouldn't be the taxpayers who for years have been struggling to support an ever growing problem, the magnitude of which Government and the CS themselves have been made well aware. This scenario would only become reality if there were no alternatives, but just maybe the doors of opportunity to address the problem are closing and our elected are powerless to do anything about it ! Maybe the time has come for the CS themselves to lobby government to cut spending and control their numbers !
  7. If the reason they sailed was indeed social media pressures, then the captain needs firing and the company shutting down. (BTW I don't believe this for one minute ). The islands transport has seen the effects of commercial pressure very close to home. If as you alliterate it was "stupid to send it out" then that should be the subject of concern. As you say social media experts should have no bearing on operational safety, that being said people are entitled to air their views.
  8. I understand that we had a larger ship coming which needed port work to accommodate it. What I find less easy to understand is why it was not dovetailed in to coincide with our new vessels arrival ! Thus negating the costs and inconvenience of it sitting out at sea.
  9. There certainly seems to be interconnected issues with the service at the moment, some of which perhaps should have been foreseen ! I refer to new boat draught and silting, new boat due to it's size cannot remain in port, Liverpool terminal not open, fastcraft being used in weather that it has not been in the past, status of the Ben unknown. Hopefully most if not all of these issues are resolvable before the demands on crossings are at the summer peak as the revenue will be vital it seems.
  10. Until tomorrow morning ! sorry.
  11. We can have as many ministers as we like, but it is acknowledged by MHK's that they don't run the island, the CS does and the MHK's are window dressing. Over many many years lots have been elected, and not one has been able to instigate any meaningful change ! Cannan talked the talk but we have 700 more CS. The taxpayers cannot afford to feed this dinosaur and it will consume us all.
  12. Presumably the lesser draught of the Ben would have lessened the silting issue or has that changed ? serious question not sarcasm ( this time ) lol.
  13. It seems to me it could stay in harbour thus negating costs and delays associated with being sheltered at sea, and without doubt it can / could go in rougher conditions than the new one ! It seems odd to me that the fast craft appears to have departed but the boat can't ? twas always the other way around ! Presumably because Liverpool is a following sea ?
  14. I see the boat is out at sea this morning sheltering off the SE of the island. In a NW gale, I would have thought our harbour was protected somewhat. The fast craft appears to be going. Is it a good idea to sell the Ben ?
  15. Hooper will love this !
  16. Most thing Government do clearly fall short of the bureaucracy cost !
  17. Thanks, didn't Macquarie shore asset strip the company however ? and presumably there would be write downs of remaining assets. The basis of the remaining value in essence was two ships needing replacement and forecast returns based solely on exclusivity granted by Government in the first place ?. On your quoted figures I agree it looks okay but certainly since 2005 things had changed.
  18. I'm in the ' I don't understand enough of the science to be convinced either way camp ', there seems to be credible people who are all in to the assumption that climate change is man made, and there also seem to be credible people who are less convinced. The climate does appear to be changing, the full understanding of why is less clear to me. If that makes me an idiot then so be it ! What I am not into however is name calling those who seek to try and gain an understanding of both sides of the fence !

In humour there can be elements of truth, and this is / was certainly true of some Chief Officers who rose to great rank without having done much or any Police work at all. Not referring to here BTW.
  20. Waterfront retail and hospitality too ? I fully accept that one thing may not be the same as the other, but is it 75 million not the same ?
