  1. Meanwhile - UK registered cars and vans still drive around, daily, used by residents and are untaxed. Thousands get wasted on reports, consultants and paying work-shy civil servants to sit at home 'on the sick'. There is the end of year skirmish to get rid of unused cash - so its gets spent on shite plans and pointless projects. Yet, try to protect your own property because of a failing Police service and a frankly hopeless legal system and you could get hammered and fined. Yep, Alf, things are working well and we are very, very lucky. We just are not allowed to record how lucky we are in case we end up in court.
  2. Change? Forum users don't do change! But they will soon get used to it and forget all about the old broken bits. Just like they do with Manx politics.

    Firm closing

Unplanned building works I was told when booking an appointment for the hound. Old place with plenty of filler in the window frames.
  4. That’s what comes out every time he opens his mouth to change the subject.
  5. Right, that’s it. I just fell asleep listening to MR just now. The pair of them are that interesting.
  6. The same bloke who thinks rocks and soil slip up hill.
  7. Fuck me - they have got one. Probably cobbled together after the budget to match it.
  8. Reactive - not proactive or progressive.
  9. ..and any update on the 'technical issue' that cancelled the Manxman the other day? Anything to do with the fancy new software system or something more political?
  10. Where does The Arrow fit in to these speed limits and emission regulations then? Built about the same time, being bought for a few million in 2022.
  11. You mean EasyJet put another plane on in order to lose the their slot.
  12. Alf is just running about like a headless chicken. He has no clue. no real direction and NOT ONE CARE for anyone other than himself. END OF. Anyone else left in the government either follow him like a sheep or have no real substance, or balls, to do anything about it for fear of losing their bank balance.
  13. Stop it! You'll get us talking about something other than Dr R today.
  14. .. and dirtier heavier and older boats use the Irish Sea daily. Still sounds like bollocks to me.
  15. Meanwhile- in other budget news, defence payments to the UK are still paying dividends with the Manx contributions holding up well in tests. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68355395
  16. Ah, wait till next time! (I hate fat arthritic fingers and small screen keyboards).
  17. https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/biggest-retailers-to-pay-manx-tax-on-local-profits/ From years ago - but they probably still pay tax now.
  18. Less than the price of a pint - cool - cheers Stu.
  19. Bigger, heavier, older ships going around the Irish Sea than the Ben. Seems like bollocks to me.
  20. It won't have food and drink onboard. It will have engineering crew only. It takes time to stock up and swap general crew about and set up tills, the bars, food areas, toilets, cabins, check pubic areas etc. This would probably done and the boat ready after what ever was wrong with the other boat was sorted. It does not explain why the Ben cannot be used to catch up on delayed freight and general cargo shipping though. Bringing in vital supplies and things that keep people in employment and income.
  21. They send a little Manx orphan down with a pull chord and they wrap it round the prop shaft. He is then pulled up quickly by a bit of twine wrapped round his foot - in-turn, rotating the shaft and starting the engine. The same is done the other side when they have been dried out and fed a bowl of gruel.
  22. It needs to be kept warm and engines run up to insure critical systems are running and lubrication of engine parts and systems. Just like leaving a car for long periods, things get cold and damp, leaks appear and corrosion sets in. The Steam Packet do not own the harbour. It is available for use by any Irish Sea user. As such the boat needs to able to be moved to another berth, or moved out to sea as, when and if required. For this reason they need crew onboard 24/7 as it's not just a case of turning a key in an ignition switch to get the engines running.
  23. Correct Correct - I stuffed that post right up didn’t I.
  24. A Tax on wildlife photographers to be announced today. That's A TAX .. not attacks.
  25. Charge for doctor appointments/missed appointments. Road tax up above inflation figures to encourage active travel ( political speech for just take in more cash and doing fuck all with it).
