  1. The skandia (or whoever lives there now) building is hideous!
  2. interesting.... . A single coal-fired power plant in China's Sichuan province now emits more CO2 ( “ food for plants”) than the entire developed world combined, completely cancelling out all the sacrifices you are being forced to make in the ludicrous pursuit of Net Zero.
  3. Just as scotland abandon their net zero plans. We're always so far behind the curve its laughable. Get our own house in order then we can think about things like this - as many have said, our contribution to emmissions doesnt even register, yet we're throwing silly money at it. I realise its a collective responsibility, but around the world governments are waking up to the fact that you cannot just go from a to b without eye watering investment, and at present nobody has the answer. Whats lost on many of the hard core environmentallists is the fact that current solutions in many cases produce more emissions to get to the stage of reducing emmissions that the whole green revolution is laughable.
  4. Despite this, the planning officer said that proposals are 'deemed to give rise to a positive impact upon the character and appearance of the wider Conservation Area by redeveloping a prominent gap site, whilst further providing increased employment opportunity and additional serviced tourist accommodation, to the benefit of the local economy'. The irony is clearly lost on these people
  5. but why would something in such a poor state (salvageable or not) and looking like shit need to be saved? Its all very well banging on about heritage, but when it adds absolutely zero either historically or aesthetically then what is the point? We need to let go of this notion that just because somethings old its worth saving. It fucking isnt and douglas is a shit hole full of similarly shitty old buildings decaying before our eyes.
  6. And so begins the latest 'scandal' surrounding the totally corrupt Manx system.
  7. didnt the fuckers knock down a building on woodbourne road for tenuos reasons, while this eyesore will be with us for years to come. They really are fucking us all over every minute of every day.
  8. Apaprt from those that have never been out of the north.
  9. Given everything seems to be bad news I thought I'd start a good news section, although I dont actually have any good news at the moment, but maybe somebody has...............
  10. 'discipline could have an effect on public services' what a grade A prick this guy is. No mention of the constant fuck ups resulting in massive overspend....lets fuck over the tax payers yet again.
  11. according to the poll 38 would consider leaving and 22 wouldnt, although there have been 73 votes cast 🤪
  12. I dont think IOM and the UK are too far apart in a lot of respects (ie imo both going down the tubes), I would imagine those considering leaving the IOM wouldnt be aiming for the UK - or I might be wrong.
  13. could go on forever, but it does say considering, so I guess covers a few options.
  14. Its a simple question and theres no need for any arguments, just curious!
  15. and on this point, wife who has a supplementary Amex on my account, tried to apply last night and was turned down as doesnt live in UK.
  16. They dont matter, because the only law that would make that happen is one that forces them to issue cards to iom residents - obv never gonna happen. The banks cant do enough to put retail punters off using them for banking services, do you honestly think that if the way was smoothed for them to offer cards to you and I they would? I really dont see it happening, too small a market.
  17. Why are people continuing to get aggro over the reasons? The fact is most dont offer them so why continue with these petty squabbles? What purpose does it serve and whats going to change? Every thread desends into squabbling and name calling, and I admit, sometimes my frustration gets the better of me, although hopefully for a reason rather than just being petty. I do feel the overall levels of negativity are growing, life on the isle is becoming such a major stress. Cant we all just accept people may have a different point of view, accept it and be kind?
  18. Hi -I think I know the answer, but just want to confirm. If I pay a lump sum (within the limits) into my SIPP, put it on my return and receive 20% tax relief? Thanks in advance.
  19. that made me lol, many thanks.
  20. Proves my point perfectly. You're ridiculous.
  21. I've always backed Stu as he is the only one 'stupid' enough to raise his head above the parapet and take part in discussions on here. It's a thankless task, as there is very little positive. However, in reality there is very little positive about the island at present. But, my patience with you, Stu, is wearing thin. You sometimes do get asked sensible questions, but time after time you respond/deflect with responses that you clearly think are both clever and witty. This only serves to wind up people fed up of years upon years of self serving polical incompetence and corruption. You were oh so shouty about the shortcomings of previous administrations while on the election trail, promising to make change, but now youre quietly effecting change from within. Bollocks. I can even undertsand why anyone regular Joe would turn to these tactics due to the number of trolls on here...but youre not a normal Joe any more, youre an elected member of our parliament. If you do go for a second term, and people ask you what difference you made to the status quo what will you answer? I was in email correspondence before the summer recess with 2 MHK's as the latest scandal (RR) was hitting the fan. They were outraged, disgusted and determind to make their voices heard and do whats right for the people of the island. Guess what? They have not replied to any emails since. I never thought I'd see the day when I would be counting down the days until I'm in a position to move from the island. But I cannot wait. The island has been good to me DESPITE of the government. But just when you think you cant get any fucking worse, you go and slap us in the face once again. You should be embarrassed and ashamed, but youre not. I dont imagine its an easy task in any way to stand up for whats right, but this isnt Russia (despite some similarties), grow a pair and rage against the machine.
  22. but shoudnt stiffer sentences be a deterrent to an activity that is illegal (ie the taking of). The law does seem a little contradictory on this point.
  23. They continue to raid reserves due to monumental fuck up after monumental fuck up, when there should be provision for a rainy day. That rainy day is now here. You would have to think that net immigration is now a nailed on impossibility. I really wouldnt be surprised to see a lot of people now seriously considering leaving.
