  1. The agreement does not include repatriation, dental, and various other areas. Travel insurance is still necessary
  2. Scientists are already saying that any vaccination will only potentially protect forva few months before it clears the body. On top of that, the way the virus mutates makes it (at least historically) too difficult to protect / vaccinate against.
  3. Why would you even think things were any better, of worse. Iom is doing really well, all things considered. Jersey is doing shit, all things considered. Iom has maybe 3000 unemployed. Jersey around 8,000. Tourism and hospitality in Jersey is an huge part of GDP compared to IOM. Our tourist season has been cancelled. Jersey's is more casual and repeat tourists. Older people. They are afraid to go. Not because of controls in Jersey, but because they may not get back!
  4. That is the interesting thing. Cases seem to be less intensive. Most likely because of early testing. At the end of the day, wash your hands, be sensible and keep your distance. There has never been a vaccine for a coronavirus. So this needs to me managed. IOM and Guernsey got it right. Ireland and Scotland are on board. Uk, Spain are now basket cases. Lets sit back and watch.
  5. Let's see, uk figures suddenly and unexplainably drop by 20,000, nobody bats an eyelid. The uk are absolutely bullshitting everything about this. "R" rate across the uk has gone up by 37%, but Boris says it is stable. Liars. Jersey is no better. Day to day new cases are detected. I suspect they are falling off the end of the active cases list after 7 days, not 14. Iceland is a perfect example. Gone from virtually no cases to hundreds in a week. Yes, they opened the borders. Lockdown next. Iom has at least 80% of its economy going. Jersey has 60-70% at best. They need to take the risk.
  6. 17 active cases. If you test positive on arrival, you and everyone who sat around you on the plane have to self isolate. This is putting tourists off. As soon it is back in the community, they will close the borders. Listen to the Manx radio mannin line podcast from yesterday. Andy Wint interviewed Ashley Tracey, a Manx girl living in Jersey. Interesting.
  7. I see Jersey has eased its lockdown some today. Be interesting to see what happens. So, a few have moved here or come here and slipped through he net. 10's of thousands of people are going into Jersey with positive cases being detected every day and hundreds isolating for 14 days. Most of those going to Jersey are either returning residents or families being reunited. Very few tourists. Too risky.
  8. Because Jersey are still under partial lock down with one metre social distancing.
  9. I think it was more to do with hand holding children to university.
  10. It will be reviewed at the end of August and depending on the infection rates in other countries may be introduced. It is optional. The choice will be either isolate for 14 days, or isolate for 7 days and then take a test. Go home and wait for result. If negative you can return to work and see family and friends but must avoid pubs, clubs, cinemas, etc. for 7 days. The test will cost about £50.
  11. It is the fecking truth! Beautician today told me. I was gobsmacked! Why the hell should she get that? I hope it is taxed!
  12. Thing is, Pongo, they are back to work and those who received MERA at £200 a week are still receiving it at £100 a week, plus their earnings. So, again, who are these people with no money? From an internal spending point of view, the Iom has never had it so good.
  13. The Teapot - To move to level for required 1:2000, which was achieved and beaten prior to the easing of lockdown in uk. Yes, it has fallen to 1:1500, as stated by Bojo in his statement at midday today when he delayed tomorrow's easing of restrictions. The situation is being monitored all the time. We could move back to level five if things over there get really bad or when cases start to appear here.
  14. Banker, what is to be gained by opening the borders right now?
  15. Sounds like they are being bankers, with a B. If people don't follow the rules and laws, they deserve to get it. Loving in the same property has to be approved beforehand and will not be allowed if the property is too small.
  16. Yes, you totally misunderstood. He said they are going to look at seven day testing and possibly make a decision at the end of August, depending on the uk and other infection rates. The seven day measure and test is optional. You can still simply isolate for 14 days. No, you cannot mix with your household. You never could while isolating. You can isolate at home with your family provided you stay in a room on your own preferably en-suite, food etc. Collected at the door. You can share a bathroom but it must be deep cleaned after each use.
  17. The number of people genuinely on state support schemes are now quite low, and basically limited to tourism and entertainment. Everyone else can or has already gone back to work. "Nobody will have any money." Bollocks!
  18. Mainly tourism. Although finance brings in much more money, tourism employs far more people.
  19. They also criticised the composition of Jersey’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee for, they claimed, not consisting ‘purely of medical and health experts’.
  20. Good. They can look forward to a 14 day love fest when they get home.
  21. Banker (with a B), have you actually read the terms and conditions of key workers and essential travel? Obviously not. What you describe above has always been possible here. Get with the program!
  22. Says whom? The reality is mor than 2000 people, myself included, have applied for a re-entry certificate so that when it is safe to travel we can bypass a bit of red tape. This part of the procedure is a "one of" requirement. Individual trips have to be applied for at the time of travel. You are correct on one thing though, we are all going to die. But it is unlikely to be of covid19 while we have a tight hold on the borders.
  23. Complete and otter cods wallop! The debt will never be paid. That is the point. The debt will be inflated out. Just like the last lot was inflated out. Thirty years ago, lager was a pound a pint. Houses cost 1/4 of what they cost now. Look forward thirty years, expect it to quadruple. Current debt will then be irrelevant. Capitalism at its best.
  24. Jerseys population in normal years increases by many thousands in the summer due to the influx of foreign workers to service the very large tourist industry. The jersey economy relies very much on that industry. Iom has a handful of hotels. Jersey has dozens to fill. We don't need open borders yet. Jersey does!
  25. Jersey has 7 active cases at the moment, according to worldometers.
