  1. Thank you quilip. The report it similar to what I had read on another site. Yes, Guernsey has cases, and provided they are kept isolated, all will be well. If it gets into the community, all hell will break loose.
  2. What does it say? I refuse to randomly accept cookies.
  3. No reason why these tunnels should not happen. Day trip to London. Get home isolate until next business trip or 14 days, which ever is shorter.
  4. You are correct, it isn't. Sidings for lunch today was packed, in a Wednesday! Young people, pensioners, business people. More packed than any given Friday before lockdown. Talking to a few friends this afternoon, many places are the same. Lots of local people with nowhere to go on holiday and plenty of money to spend, equals a buoyant economy. Sue some businesses will struggle. Some will fail. That is life.
  5. And that is exactly why the borders can remain closed to tourists. Tanrogans lunchtime trade was critical to its survival. Same for many other restaurants in town, especially. Tanrogan are taking a break and re-inventing itself for current times. Just as several others have done. As of Monday next week, locals can go and visit uk relatives and friends, or go in holiday. 14 days isolation is the required penalty and deterrent. Some teachers and unemployed will go off. Some of them will bring the virus back. At that point, provided it does not get back into th community, we should not have to lock down. Open the borders to tourists and we will be in full lock down by the beginning of September, just in time for the schools to go back.
  6. But surely that's a good thing. A few very highly paid employees, paying lots of NI and tax, versus lots of low paid people, still paying NI and some tax but taking more from God system than they are paying in?
  7. Cambon

    Fancy a pint?

Actually closer to the truth than you think. The ingredients for beer are pretty much the same as artisan bread. Try putting vat on bread!
  8. The Iom gov has not borrowed anything. Yet. The point of the proposal was to allow the borrowing in the future should it be required. So far it has not. I think the ability to borrow the money was also part of the state of emergency act. Since that act is now defunct, the ability to borrow is also possibly defunct.
  9. Raising taxes on the poor will happen, using Covid as an excuse. With regard to the fictional national debt, they will do what every other country does nd wait for inflation to devalue it.
  10. Yes. The correct move. Ten days away to allow people to make plans, and more importantly to monitor cases across and world wide. I don't believe the uk figures. After opening all pubs, clubs etc, they claim new cases are falling, where every other country who had done the same while still having cases in the community have seen a rise in cases.
  11. The economy is open. People are going out and spending money. Things are ticking over nicely. Other small communities allowing visitors in without quarantine is simply inviting the virus back. It is happening.
  12. Correction. Well over 1000 have returned with most tested and several cases detected. The snowflake attitude of open the borders and invite the virus back will cause a second wave which will fuck the islands economy beyond repair. Why? So you can have two weeks all inclusive in Benidorm?
  13. Absolutely! The government of the uk have to stop being tits and suppress this thing properly. Then the borders can operate in a more relaxed fashion. At the moment, the U.K. Arc fibbing about their figures. They even reduced the Worldometer total cases by 20,000 last week. Anything to get the economy going. It will mean a second and bigger wave.
  14. So, Jersey became Covid free a week or so ago. Opened the borders to flights from UK. They have about eight cases now. Bermuda became Covid free last week. Started flights from Atlanta. Two cases, both bermudians, flown in and the entire plane now has to isolate. Hopefully both jurisdictions can suppress these cases quickly. A hard lesson to learn. I hope Howard is taking note.
  15. Interesting. on point 1, Although Irish were not enslaved, all male Irish arrivals at Ellis island were sent directly to the front line to fight the confederacy. That is enslavement. 2, The south seceded over taxes imposed by Washington DC, in particular land taxes. 3, It is true that only a small percentage of people owned slaves. They were expensive and just like today only the very rich could afford them. 4, This is actually correct. 5, This is also correct. However, when the unionist attacked plantations, the enslaved people fought against them. They were fighting for their home, their livelihoods and often their lives. At the end of the war, the south had incredibly lost. General Robert Lees house and property was confiscated from him in payment for land tax arrears. His house, Arlington House still stands. Fantastic house. The rest of the property is where the USA bury their military, Arlington Cemetery.
  16. Allow what businesses to function? After tomorrow's announcements, I reckon Manx residents will be allowed to visit uk, and go on holiday further afield provided they self isolate for 14 days on return. With regard to tourism as I said earlier this year's tourist season on Iom has already been cancelled. We have about 75% of our economy back. Another wave and subsequent lockdown will screw us up for the rest of the year and probably beyond. We are currently quite safe. If we can get a few holiday makers from Guernsey and Jersey, maybe Ireland later in the year, that will help. As I ve said, the borders need to open, but not any time soon.
  17. Yes, but no new cases today, two yesterday, two the day before. For the next few days, who knows? The virus was taken in by uk visitors going to see parents on the exemption scheme with closed borders. That is how easily this thing spreads. NZ are on a similar borders stage to us.
  18. Look, I want to go on holiday as much as anyone else. However, why risk it when there is a wave of infection taking off? Other countries are trying different types of quarantine and isolation. Wait and see what works. Then follow that. The majority of the Islands income is secure. Yes, there will be une, ployment. Opening borders is not going to help or change that.
  19. Jersey and Guernsey are more reliant on tourist than we are. Our tourist season has effectively been cancelled. We don't need borders open to visitors. Uk is beginning to spike again. The World is well into its second wave. Just look at Worldometers.org. New Zealand whom everyone raved about allowed too many people in. They now have gone from nothing to 22 cases. The best approach for I.o.M. is to adopt a wait and see. Dr. A says there will be a second wave here. The only way that can happen is through the borders.
  20. Port Erin does not have screens. Rather than make the changes required, I reckon they will shut it down due to Castletown being so close and slightly larger. Thing is, Port Erin branch is always busy so there will be some back lash.
  21. Sorry but the profits easyJet make on the Iom Lpl route are immense when you take into account the low overheads, especially the short time it takes. They will jump to it as soon as HQ gives the go ahead.
  22. You really are a dreamer. Jersey have been idiotic through the pandemic. Guernsey have done very well, like us. I am looking forward to going back to Guernsey in a couple of months for a break. Great place. I have family in Jersey. They can wait a few more months. Borders with Ireland will be open before UK.
  23. Correct, but all were under strict instructions.
  24. No. I think they and F1 in general are exploiting Hamilton as a black man, literally for the purposes of promoting F1.
