  1. Yes I should have been clearer it's a section of the fans. But it predates the internet! And they seem to have the ear of owners currently. Who placate them for a time by signing flashier players - Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo, Pogba - rather than addressing the fundamental issues (although that Jim bloke seems to have a better idea of what's needed). You've created a distinction "a prolonged challenge for the league" I didn't make. I said "even in the Evans to Houllier to Benetez ... there was a sense of progress." It was certainly more orderly than the United in the 70's or 2010s* * and the Hicks/Gillett era at Liverpool from the end of Benítez's time through to
  2. The culture is very different. It comes from the supporters. Look at the songs... Ones communal, about the process, basically play with pride and you'll always have a place with us. The other is about being top dog, having bragging rights. Consequently, United have a tendency to attract "flash gits" often wonderful players but they know it and revel in it. Also a section of United fans get very excited about every young player that breaks through and every big money signing then turn on them, when there's a dip in form. (Ironic really when their great teams have been built around players nurtured by the club). This makes United harder to manage than Liverpool. Liverpool and United have been champions a similar number time but only three Untied mangers have won the title (Busby, Fergie and Magnall in the 1910's), Liverpool it's 9. Only Busby and Fergie have been European Champs - 4 Liverpool managers have. Your 4th most successful manager is probably Mourinho with a Europa League and FA Cup - Houllier won more in one season and he's about our 10th most successful manager. United have dipped after Busby and Fergie left. Liverpool transitioned from Shankly to Paisley and on to Fagin and Dalglish and maintained success. It went wrong when Dalglish quit mid-season and left an aging team. Klopp's leaving a rebuilt midfield and a young squad. In fact even in the Evans to Houllier to Benetez; and Dalglish to Rogers to Klopp periods there was a sense of progress. So my view is that the more individualistic United dressing room would respond differently to the Liverpool one, because the post Fergie years were always going to be difficult. Of course it's only Fergie that says the announcement affected the team and he's an unreliable narrator. He always had an excuse when his team under performed. It's not beyond him to protect the team by saying "It's my fault for retiring not the team's for being poor"
  3. Sure of what? I said it'll be fine, so yeah I think at the end of the season I'll be fine with the team's effort, progress and results. The Arsenal game hasn't changed much, really, we were only given a 36% chance of winning the league beforehand. Which I thought was about right. It would be nice to win the league but City were always favourites. We've lost one game of of three since Klopp's announcement, away from home at last year's runners up at the end of a busy period, against a team that didn't play in either cup. Before the game I compared the two starting line-ups position for position and I thought their midfield was stronger. Arsenal had a better and fresher side on the day, played better and made fewer mistakes. It happens but it's not an existential crisis.
  4. It'll be fine. Different generation of players from when Fergie nearly retired. Liverpool and United have psychologically very different.

    Firm closing

Yes but they must be to a Michelin starred standard, and cheap.
  6. I'm still standing by my prediction that we'll see driverless taxis before the Bus Station Mega Cinema Hotel gets built on Lord Street.
  7. Oh my “It has been scientifically proven that you have an energy field that has its own vibrational frequency which interacts with the world you live in. Albert Einstein simplified this 'relativity' in the world's most famous equation, E=mc2. This relationship is the constant interchange between your energy and the material world you're in. This interplay between you and a bundle of Energy and the Matter you create. Energy = Matter“ I think this might be satire … “As a Numerologist, it comes as no surprise, that I serve clients from all four corners of the globe, from the UK, heading West to California and heading East to Australia”
  8. Maybe they meant "The Government acted on good faith over reason"
  9. Are you suggesting it should read ""Andy is a dynamic flexible and highly motivated leader that had a successful career ..." [but has now joined the Isle of Man Government] If you're suggesting it should be "who has" you're not wrong in that "Andy is a person who has..." is better than "Andy is a person that has..". But that is stylistic preference rather than grammatical rule.

    Retirement Age

I understand where you are coming from here, I was in the same boat. Still am really. However, try to make a small contribution now because that will have longer to grow and will impact your final pension when you retire more than contributions in your 50's will. Also your employer's matching contribution is free money! Try to look at it this way if Income Tax went up 1% you would have to lump it. You'd see the drop in your pay packet each month and adjust your spending, but you'd have no choice but to manage. Think of your pension contribution as a new tax but one imposed on you by future madmanx90.

But by paying NI and contributing to a personal pension we are.

You did say "your pension" and replying to me. So there isn't a savings pot for public sector pensions? Isn't that a bit like a ponzi scheme.

    Retirement Age

I mentioned 60 in respect of my Private Sector Pension. It's only the nominal retirement age, I'll probably work to state retirement age. But the thread isn't about people having to work past 70, its about the age you can claim state pension. The state pension shouldn't be anyone in the generation affected's sole retirement income. Maybe, I'm misunderstanding how public sector pensions work. But just changing the nominal retirement date wouldn't have the effect of reducing the cost to the tax payer. In fact it would increase it because you've an extra year's employer's contribution, and at the top of the employee's pay level.

But the pot will be larger. Me and my employer will have paid in 15 more years at 70 than 55. Plus investment growth. But I recognise there's also a benefit to claiming over fewer years on how much the pension pays out per annum.

    Retirement Age

But isn't their pension based on how long they work? So delaying retirement would simply mean a bigger pension liability at the end of it. In the Private Sector I know my pension will be better if I continue working after 60. Every year my pension pot will increase by my extra contributions and by what I would have claimed.

Hate to support Gizo, but I've been called twice in a simillar period - also Port Erin but each time it was cancelled a week or so before.

    Scams

I see there’s a thread been posted where we can join the Ugandan or Dubai branch of the illuminati.
  21. I've kind of hoped that the replacement would be someone internal. Klopp rebuilds the squad than hands it over to a trusted lieutenant - probably Pep Linders. Like Shankly handing over to Paisley. But the financial stakes are too high for American investors to stomach someone who hasn't had the top job before. Alonso would be my choice, but he does have a slightly different style of play to Klopp so whether the current squad fits his way of playing - I don't know. And I'd like to see what these guys can achieve. Whoever we get (unless it's Pep!) I think we'll miss Klopp's ability to tweak things tactically if we're losing or rearrange the team if we have a lot of injuries.
