  1. It’s not nice when you’re trying to eat your Big Mac in peace, when the vaping smoke from the adjacent cubicle drifts into yours. So you do lash out. It’s understandable.
  2. Well a month or so ago there was a thread started by someone who alleged they were abused and “ left to die” ( or something like that). Quite properly, in my opinion the thread was locked, but if I remember correctly it said it was “locked by John Wright” ( who to his credit, did offer assistance to this individual ) This “ locking” was many months after John had ceased to be a moderator. It did make me think it was a bit odd.
  3. That would no doubt explain the increasing number of biological boys, self identifying as girls then 🙂
  4. Well the connection between a sign in Grantham, seemingly to draw attention to a pothole problem there and the visit of the Queen to the Isle of Man to pronounce ( or whatever) that Douglas is now a city, seems a little tenuous to say the least. Anyway each to their own. Wouldn’t do if we were all the same etc
  5. Bit of context here Origins. Jack Cohen, the son of Jewish migrants from Poland, founded Tesco in 1919 when he began to sell war-surplus groceries from a stall at Well Street Market, Hackney, in the East End of London.
  6. And how many 1940’s gas chambers have you been led into? None I would guess. Me neither but I don’t really think the comparison bears scrutiny.
  7. So you were one of the ones blocking the aisles, mooching whilst those of us just wanted to go in, do our shopping and get out again. Laid back shopping experience for you, frustrating for others. No different from Tesco’s
  8. Since when has visiting any supermarket become a pleasant experience?
  9. Well it’s true I think more highly of him than I do of you. “ Hero” might be stretching it a bit though.
  10. Miles Walker condescending? I don’t think so. Not to give too much away he helped me out of a sticky situation when we were both stuck abroad. Donald Gelling, well I met and talked to him on a couple of ( prawn sandwich) occasions, Like Mr Walker not in the least condescending. Farmers both, imbued with common sense. I spent my working career on the IOM in the financial services sector and I’d rather place my faith in the likes of those two than what we have at the moment.
  11. Exactly. Wow! The brilliance of social media hey?
  12. Not turn up because they don’t like the new logo?. Like the RNLI volunteers should resign their positions because they don’t like a newly designed logo on their orange vests? It is a bit crap and I for one don’t see the need for it. I hope some whizz bang marketing company has not been paid to come up with it diverting funds from the proper purpose of the TT Marshals Association or whatever, but I don’t know.
  13. [ Norman Wisdom]. No he wasn’t. I knew him through some mutual friends and he was quite affable, and did a lot for charity. He was a little irritating in that when he was being introduced to someone new he would do that pretending to fall over thing routine. But I think that’s really the worst accusation you could have levelled against him
  14. What is the likely cost for this? Will it be borne by the Isle of Man? If we have to stump up for a meal of queenies with bacon, Loaghtan lamb with all the trimmings and a cup of coffee for Camilla and her entourage I don’t think it’s really worth making a fuss about. I think we need to know the cost before deciding or not whether it is disproportionate. I imagine any Royal visit anywhere can be challenged as being value for money. In my youth I was a full on Republican foaming at the mouth about how the public should not spend a penny on the Royal Family. I’m a lot more relaxed about it now, there’s a lot more important stuff to worry about
  15. Well you said a few posts ago you are a bit pissed. Goodness knows you’re not the only one to post in that state. It can be entertaining. Like in the pub being a little / lot under the influence can make you a happy likeable chappy or an insufferable bore.
  16. The co op members card is pretty good. You get member's prices ( on admittedly a small selection of items) but you also get to chose two offers a week, one of which for me is 75p off a reasonably decent bottle of wine, the other being a similar amount off any Andrex product. Re delivery, it would be unusual not to be able to get a slot on the same day you look for one, particularly if you go online in the morning. And nine times out of ten there is a promo code for free delivery which saves you £1.99, although there is usually one 99p slot in the day ( they are in 2 hour intervals). winner, winner Chicken dinner!
  17. Or call into the Victory cafe for a rest break on the way
  18. Quite happy to lend them mine if they don’t mind all the crisp wrappers and empty drinks bottles in the back. That would save a few quid.
  19. I wouldn’t set foot into Tesco’s without my Clubcard. You would be mad to. I don’t like having to use the thing but I wouldn’t contemplate paying say 50% or more for some items or missing out on multi buy savings because I didn’t have a piece of plastic on me or something on my phone. And I wouldn’t go round the store just looking for stuff where you get no advantage from your Clubcard. Because say you may get one type of orange juice that has a non Clubcard price but next to it there may be another indistinguishable type of orange juice on which you do receive a clubcard discount.
  20. I’m not sure they have to be in for a shock. Subject to having private transport they can nip over the mountain to the Tesco in Victoria Road and take advantage of the expandedrange and non express prices there. It’s twenty minutes or so. No need to travel through Douglas which would add about the same to your journey. Presumably parking will be sufficient ( have you tried to get a park in St Paul’s Square, where Tesco Express is expected to be recently, since the barriers fell into disuse?)
  21. Well this is the oft proffered explanation of why Ashford gets returned in Douglas North. The whole Island can’t be full of grannies can it? If so we face an existential crisis. Maybe Cannan his not so stupid in his drive for increasing the population.
  22. Can you use it to report assholes?
  23. Actually I do. Living in Ramsey we have two supermarkets. I make a list of what we need and decide whether that list looks more like a Shoprite/ Tesco hybrid shop or a Co op shop. Amongst the deciding factors are variety, and obviously cost. In terms of these the Co op is way better in terms of fresh fruit but in terms of say frozen foods Shoprite is better. Both stock wines I like so I have to look at my cellar to decide which ones I am running low on so that has an influence on which I visit. I try and alternate on different days but if I have a lot of time on my hands I will do a two centre shop on the same day.
