Sounds like the venue could have been 'The Venue' - a place with no visible sign of intelligent life forms, being hammered and torn down by people who think it gets in their way and where, ultimately, everything will fall apart. It was not publicised do to security risks you have absolutely no idea how this island works! for 400 people to have gone 400 people must have been told or at least know about the meeting!
