General Election 2011 - Douglas West

There is no reason why a Party's policy cannot be changed.

Agreed and Thomas implied they had but when pressed would not give a straight answer

If Malarkey had felt so strongly about this, as a senior member of the Party he should have used his incisive intellect and highly honed negotiating and pin point persuasion techniques to amend Liberal Vannin Party policy.

This is not about Malarkey but if there is a fundamental change in a parties policy from when you agreed to stand and you did not agree with the change is it not right to stand down. PK has twice over the years been elected under one banner and switched horses mid term and yet he does not receive the same critisism. I do not know but this seems to be more about personalities than principals

I actually thought last time round nobody with any integrity could have stood under the LVP banner as at that time it appeared to have no real constitution, rules, policies. How could anybody stand under that banner if you realy did not know what it stood for?

At least now they seem to have got a clearer identity altough some candidates appear to believe it is a Liberal Party and other that it is a Soocialist party!

Instead he took the easy route and joined all the big boys on easy street. (Did I say 'easy street'? Well yes, I did).

He left the Party and took all his disciples from Douglas COuncil with him too.

I agree, it is a bit of a bastard people like me always bringing this up. But if I didn't then it would easily be forgotten, wouldn't it.

I am not a member of Liberal Vannin. I'm just a person that would like to see people with a bit more backbone in our Parliament.

Now more than ever.

Theo, your facts are wrong.

My reasoning for leaving LV was nothing to do with Bill, it was a personal choice not decided upon or pressured by anyone but my own thought.

Hmmmm...

Well, I'm happy to amend:

He left the Party and at about the same time all the other newly elected and seemingly spineless wannabe politicians from Douglas Council left too.

Theo, why ohhh why do you keep telling people my secrets!! I have hidden the fact I have no spine for 38 years, hence my ability to still be able to touch my own toes whilst standing straight legged.

Although i do agree that we need strong politicians now more than ever. (I also believe Alan Bell can bench 200 KG)

Just heard Chris Thomas LVP on Talking Heads. I was really looking forward to it...former university lecturer; City of London big-wig....Dear oh dear. Not a single original thought in the man's head; not many thoughts at all actually. Had your chance to capture my vote Mr T and you blew it big style. Terrible. This election is depressing me to the point of misery.

and which constituency do you actually live in?

If you are not sure, why not check.

Had experience of dealings with Chris Thomas a number of years ago. A genuinely nice bloke, who could not organise a pi$$ up in a brewery. Great at thinking, not good at articulating or putting into practice. His CV looks good, but again is all about advising and not doing..

I'm entirely sure that I live in West Douglas...hence my remark in my previous post "you had your chance to capture my vote and you blew it big time". I'm unsure why you believe my constituency is unknown to me. Possibly, you are very stupid.

I agree, I know a number of "academics" that would struggle to butter their own toast, this island needs people with foresight, realisation that every action or decision creates consequence.

The ability to look outside the box and realise the island can’t be sustained by a few loop holes that could and will eventually be closed up.

I think the place might be improved by the odd academic provided that they are surrounded by people who are pragmatic.

We have a bunch of idiots who are neither academic nor pragmatic (except to the extent of improving their re-election prospects)

I also know a few councillors/MHKs/MLCs who'd probably want to buy a whole creamery in order to butter a single slice.

Or get a taxi to the shop 200 meters (218.72266 yards) down the road!!!!

Just a question on Mr Chris Thomas, just wanted to know (if he looks or posts on here)... who paid for his trip to the Liberal International Congress in Manila?

Did

IBS pay or

LV or

did he pay himself.??

Thanks

Not stupid, just confused, as you were slagging off candidates on the Ramsey thread and Castletown thread, I thought maybe you were a voter there.

I do accept apologies though and am waiting patiently.
