It appears the local franchise is being broken up and Douglas stores have been sold. Sunk by an over enthusiastic expansion plan into Glasgow

The woman who used to manage the Douglas one went to The Sound I believe. The service level in Strand Street went downhill shortly after.

Why bleat about it? There's a large number of pubs too:

Sam Webbs

Clarendon

The Bridge

The British

Bar George

Amber

Cest'le've (or whatever it's called now)

Outback

Strand 58 (or whatever it's called now?)

Quidds Inn

Sir Normans

The Railway

Victoria Tavern

McBeths

Jaks

Queens

Woodbourne

Terminus

Bowling Green

O'Donnels

Rosemount

Market

Prospect

Rovers

Saddle

Courthouse

Zomg! Pubs everwhere! Shock horror! Bleat!

Strand 58 is now called Topshop. I hear that the beer's shite in there... alright if you drink 'shorts' I suppose!

  • 1 month later...

So what do we call the stores now?

"The Coffee Shops Formerly Known As Coffee Republic" ?

Seems a bit long winded. And having visited the Victoria Street store a few times last month the trade seems a fraction of what it used to be, like an old dog on its last legs still smiling as you take it to the vets. All the CR branding is gone and the menu far smaller than before. Amazed if it turns a profit these days.

Had a chat to Nicholi in the ex CR, Victoria St on Tuesday, he seems to be in supervisory role, he was taking builders around the premises, clipboards akimbo. short story, major renovations in the pipeline, expect some closures before it emerges in new form.
