Non-Believer
They didn't say lots. I said lots. They started at £50 a year and said it would go up by £50 each year till it reached £300. That might not be lots to you but it is to some. When did they announce that? About two years ago. Quietly. We must be at the £200 per year point now? So another £100 to go on in the next two years then?

english zloty
Just a good job the Treasury Minister has introduced the all island rating system as promised.. you know, to make it fairer
pongo
Just a good job the Treasury Minister has introduced the all island rating system as promised.. you know, to make it fairer There is no reason why people in the parishes with lower rates should pay the same as people who live in the areas where rates are higher. Especially given that some of the councils and parishes are better than others at actually collecting the rates. People visiting Douglas to work or shop are already indirectly paying towards the costs of running Douglas via the business rates. This is an ideal opportunity to introduce an all Island rate. I predicted this nearly 10 years ago.

Dirty Buggane
Lets take all of the roads and ports and club them together, run by a bunch of incompetent fiefdom builders. Its bound to be the way forward to save manpower and money. They saved manpower alright by fucking off the guy with the shovel and the brush who actually did something, then employed more and more managers to manage fewer people at the coal face. Then had meeting after meeting with other managers who could not realise why the work was not being done in a timely and value manner. Who after yet more meetings with yet more managers their only idea was to put in place more managers, and yet less and less men/women with brush and shovel to actually do the fucking job. And then you go and put an incompetent manager of managers who only ability I can see is to waffle bollocks and still will not get shut of a shitload (and that means a lot) of incompetent managers and ass lickers because he likes the way they talk to him. By the way if in any doubt its Thomas I'm talking about. Edited March 31, 2023 by Dirty Buggane

You have ex-CM Tony Brown (Political and Financial Colossus) to laud for this, his creation of the DOI from its antecedents of DOT and before that DHPP, as part of his 2009/10, post-VAT cutback reshuffle of Departments to save money which strangely, in spite of its driver, barely cost a single management/CS job. An avenue that was continued through the subsequent years of Gawne as Minister. In fact, the DOI is the only now remnant of that reshuffle, more than likely because of the nature of the impregnable behemoth of unaccountable incompetence that was created. 4
