Uhtred
grrrrr awards, grrrrr back-slapping, grrrr, er, something. Apparently I do this every year, so I thought I'd better keep up the tradition. Sadly I don't have any particularly strong feelings on the subject, so can't really contribute much. Allan Bell...spoke well and showed some real class. Well, I don't doubt he surpassed his bumbling successor in those respects.
gettafa
How many manxforums folk would you reckon are on this picture: (notty can't be there, surely, I think he must be still at the bar getting wellied on free booze, and telling Allan Bell how much he admired him and his speech to the nation) "and the award for the best social media site goes to....." Moghrey Mie
What was all that 'gem of god's earth' stuff? i wouldn't say the quality of life on the IOM is all that wonderful compared with some places.

I believe it is a line from the Manx National Anthem [insert wiki link here]. These days there are a number of lines from that particular tome that would break the Trade Descriptions Act. Next time you experience an unexpected rumble, it is likely the bodies of many thousands of decent and honest, Manxmen and women turning in their graves. Tarne
One of my exes won last year or the year before for no reason apart from she runs a business with daddy's money and whilst it looks good is not remotely profitable Needless to say I wouldn't have given her an award for head work. It's not the 'land of our birth' for most people here.
Donald Trumps
These are the words to the original Manx song 'Mylecharane' upon which 'O Land Of Our Birth' is based: O Vylecharane! c'raad hooar oo dty stoyr, My-lomarcan daag oo mee; Nagh dooar mee' sy churragh eh dowin, dowin dy liooar, As my-lomarcan daag oo mee. Translation (believed to be by George Borrow) O Mylecharane, where got you your gold? (Lone, lone have you left me here;) O not in the curragh, deep under the mould, (Lone, lone, and void of cheer.) O Mylecharane, where got you your stock? (Lone, lone have you left me here;) O not in the curragh from under a rock, (Lone, lone, and void of cheer.) O Mylecharane, where got you your goods? (Lone, lone have you left me here;) O not in the curragh, from under the sods, (Lone, lone, and void of cheer.) Two pairs of stocking and one pair of shoes, (Lone, lone have you left me here;) For twenty-six years old Mollie did use. (Lone, lone, and void of cheer.) His stockings were white but his sandals, alack! (Lone, lone have you left me here;) Were not of one colour - one white t'other black. (Lone, lone, and void of cheer.) One sandal was white, and t'other dark brown (Lone, lone have you left me here;) But he'd two of one colour for kirk and for town. "O father, I really can't walk by your side (Lone, lone have you left me here;) If you go to the church in those sandals of hide." (Lone, lone, and void of cheer.) "O daughter, my dear, if my brogues give you pain (Lone, lone have you left me here;) There's that in the coffer will make you look fain." (Lone, lone, and void of cheer.) A million of curses on Mylecharane, (Lone, lone have you left me here;) The first who gave tocher to daughter in Man. (Lone, lone, and void of cheer.)
