Yes challenging them might be the way to go. Then again we've got one case gone through the courts of one guy on his own who has downloaded close to 1m images of kiddy porn. The number of allocated Manx IPs just to that one person over several thousand (I assume) log in sessions to get hold of 1m pics could reasonably have created some of the anomalies. Therefore it might not be defendable if challenged. The number of cases coming before the Courts here though is worrying even ignoring this web data.

I don't believe for a moment that every other country does not have its fair share of characters like that.

It is just some amateurish WordPress blog, not even a paid for one with its own domain name, so let's not get overly excited here. It has no more merit or interest than a random thread in the General section of this forum.

But your own domain is traceable and that's not the point of this sort of publication. A Wordpress site is exactly the sort of place this stuff usually resides isnt it? I don't see how that makes anything said any less credible. In fact I don't see how anyone hiding behind an anonymous log in on Manxforums could have an issue with any other person doing pretty much the same. She at least links through to some academic research and other articles published on other more legitimate websites to support what was published. It's not all Wordpress.

Also, I am not anonymous. I am registered with a personal email address which is directly traceable back to me.

You're anonymous to everyone just not the Mods (if they ever bother looking or even have access to your email address). It's no different to Wordpress if you've registered a Wordpress account using your own email address.

Just the mods, meaning pretty much everyone on the island then.

You assume that even they can see your email address (?) Anyway so it's exactly the same as Wordpress on here at the end of the day. If you register with an identifiable email address they know who you are (if they can be bothered looking), if you don't then they don't. It doesn't dilute the impact of what's said and she did link to other new sites to validate some of what was said.

These sort of comparative statistics need to be taken with a great deal of caution. They can vary not only with sample size and statistical variation from norms, to simple things like differential detection, reporting or prosecution rates.

A simple example would be reporting by IT technicians and firms. The IoM Constabulary may have approached everyone here, and persuaded cooperation and notification, whereas in UK, and in particular cities, that is unlikely.

It's a very big statistical anomaly though looking at it and it would be interesting to get to the bottom of where it's coming from.

Wordpress has millions of users. Manxforums has hundreds? I bet the Admins recognize many of the emails "I reckon that's Dave from B&Q?"

Additionally, all IPs are manx. Meaning, if the police had to investigate one of us, just ask Sure or MT.

Wordpress can't do this.

Unless you're going out of your way to hide from the admins (TOR/VPN/etc) then none of us on here are ultimately anonymous.

A single server somewhere with a dynamic IP that's frequently cycling. We've already said.

Cracking night last night at the Outback with the clairvoyance show. Many thanks to all who showed up and for being a fab audience.

Back to the topic, I believe these statistics. The word nonce came through loud and clear at least half dozen times during the night.

I'd suggest that the statistics for the larger countries are a lot higher than stated. Perhaps the method of tracing or monitoring makes it easier to capture IoM data?

Having said that, I'm not sure if this is 'dark web' stuff or simply looking at images on mainstream sites which turn out to have some with girls, or boys younger than 18? One of them is clearly making an effort to find child porn, the other could be done accidentally? If we have a large number of people setting out to download child pornography then we certainly have a problem in our midst.

ETA, I mentioned in a thread a couple of years ago that there was a dodgy webcam site which had a .im suffix. I can't remember the name of it unfortunately.

I've been on the internet for about 20 years now. I can say categorically that I have never been in a situation where I have accidentally found any kiddy porn ever from 'accidentally' searching the internet. Not once. I think that's a poor excuse to be honest. Anyone who has that on their hard drive or browser history pretty much went looking for it let's face it.
