I've been on the internet for about 20 years now. I can say categorically that I have never been in a situation where I have accidentally found any kiddy porn ever from 'accidentally' searching the internet. Not once. I think that's a poor excuse to be honest. Anyone who has that on their hard drive or browser history pretty much went looking for it let's face it.

What I was meaning was a mainstream porn site may have under age 'models' despite claiming that they are over 18, not accidentally finding it when searching for a supplier of 'big baps' ;)

I have - just searching using radio callsigns which can also end up in random filenames used in image sharing sites, I'l come across some ugly stuff although that would have been ten years ago or so and was reported to the authorities at the time. I think these sites are now locked down rather well.

It is just some amateurish WordPress blog, not even a paid for one with its own domain name, so let's not get overly excited here. It has no more merit or interest than a random thread in the General section of this forum.

Steady now. You'll be accused of trying to stifle debate etc

I agree with this - I've only once in my entire internet career been confronted with even normal porn via an innocent search - it was searching for this website and google found me quite a different type of starfish!

In my view, to be confronted with porn (and worse) you've got to go and look for it.

Yes those chocolate starfish can be pretty nasty. You're right though it's hard to find even normal porn accidentally these days unless you're looking for it.

I think whoever mentioned MT and dynamic IPs has hit the nail on the head.  1 or 2 big peados who don't understand how to hide their IP and the fact the islands most popular ISP uses dynamic IPs a lot of the time could account for all of that.  From what's gone through the courts we already know we had some big time kiddy porn fanatics over here.  But more importantly any statistics based on IP addresses are inherently bollocks.

I'm in danger of going down the line of the usual MF mentals here but I'm going to say it anyway.....as far as the island importing certain types of criminal I thought it was well known that it did happen and could still be happening?  Those people still need access to some government services the same as everybody else, except some services will have to go to them. Perhaps not everybody in those services agrees with it and are going to talk about it "down the pub".  Of course it could just be people trying to make their jobs sound more interesting than they they are?!

The trouble with that article is that it looks believable everything is referenced and there's loads of links. But really what the author is doing is throwing lots of information at the problem and saying - "look there must be an issue!".

She even makes it look like she's considering the issues raised in this thread, including sample size bias -

" Due to the low actual number, 149, but high proportion per 100,000, then small differences in the Isle of Man figures are liable to be amplified in comparison to other countries with larger population. It is wise therefore to look at all possible sources of variation. "

And then the dynamic IP address / VPN address is touched on, but given as much airtime as possible "explanations" like-

  • Manx Telecoms German ownership
  • German bikers in TT week
  • The Island's Viking history " Have some Norwegian links been retained which has somehow manifested in the island today sharing similar file sharing groups on computer? "

It's like hiding the proverbially elephant in a room full of stuffed elephants.

Everyone knows the Isle of Man is full of pedos. Always has been. Always will be. There's more dirty bastards downloading filth and tampering with kids here than almost anywhere else I bet. This site doesn't surprise me at all. They ship them in from the UK when they want to lie low and then they get up to their filthy antics here and the police know all about it.

There was a paedo down the road from us when we were growing up. The older kids in the area warned us of him as he had shown them photos of naked boys. He was a bit odd but to be fair, and fore-warned I suppose, he caused us no harm. He had been a teacher at a public school in England, but the word was he had been relieved of his duties. He moved/was moved to the Island. It was a few years later and well after his death, needing to do some property research that we found he had bought his house for £5 (the token amount for property then). There could be various reasons for that but I could find no logic (a relative's gift or whatever). There were other oddities with the transaction. Anyway, it kind of made us believe it was sone sort of 'arrangement'.
