Car Transporter Trailer required to hire or borrow

Recommended Posts

I need a trailer to take a Mazda RX8 down to Portsmouth to have a reconditioned engine fitted.

Happy to pay.

Ill be towing using a Discovery Sport (M6, M42, M40, A34, M27, M275.)

Out day 1, engine removal and fitting days 2 and 3, return day 4.

Ive tried all the usual suspects, no one. I can get it transported at extortionate cost.

Mazda not driveable as rotor tips have worn out.

It’s going to an RX8 specialist. I’m not sure there’s anyone here who can deal with rotary Wankel cycle engines. They give a trade in on the engine they remove so I’d have to ship the old engine down and the new one up.

Im flexible on sailings. Including trailer 300 return

Would it not be more cost effective to have the new motor shipped here?

Or are all the garages over here really that useless to fit it?

Even with the exchange engine being returned, it must be cheaper sending an engine each way. Fitting should not be that expensive surely.?

Silly question I know, do you have the correct licence for towing? (you'll be surprised how many people don't) I only know of ropey farm trailers, although there was a car trailer for sale recently.

EDIT : Just checked and the car/plant trailer I was thinking of has sold (it was £300!)

Only other thing I can see for sale is this https://www.manx.net/classifieds/Motors/advert/889353/triple-axle-18ft-flat-bed-trailer

I would say buy it and flog it when you get back but I don't think you'd get 2k easily other than if someone really wants one, I'd be asking either stock car lads or the ones who do drift days/track days at jurby.

It’s the rotary engine set up, etc. Don’t think there’s anyone here I’d trust.

Its not my car. But my understanding is that anyone with serious interest in RX8’s get the engines dealt with away.

In addition the car interior is stuffed full of add ons, that are to be fitted at the same time.

I am taking it to Portsmouth. So I want to borrow the trailer. I don’t want a botched job here

Yes, given when I passed my test I’ve grandfather rights to drive up to 7.5 tonnes. My motorhome was 4.5. Had a car trailer then, for a Smart, later a Fiat 500. Then got them fitted with an A frame to make the rig shorter.

Not interested in buying a trailer.

Sorry can't help with the trailer. My suitable  Ifor W lives and is registered/insured abroad.

Just interested in your A frame though. Do your towed car brakes work when being A framed?

Yes, they were braked.
