This is just an attempt to hoover up the crumbs, is it a sign of desperation? There were some rare arguments trotted out by the Scrutiny Committee about the "gigs" putting 5 vehicles up a lane to deliver 5 parcels instead of IoM Post doing it in a one-er too. Such environmental and road safety concerns. If there's concerns about the PO finances and pensions situation, perhaps the Committee should look towards management and the actuarial advice that's achieved this position, don't blame Joe Postie or Hermes - it's the usual IoM syndrome, the buck stops at the bottom. What if I order a under 1kg item and get it delivered to Ship2Man because the supplier does not deliver to the island directly? Will they have to hand it over to the PO? They need to face up to the fact that Royal Mail/ our Post Office are an industry with a diminishing market and plan accordingly, ie reduce size. Not steal buisiness from private companies. It's not right that the big online retailers have exclusive contracts with Hermes, they also use royal Mail, DPD etc. we have had deliveries from all sources when ordering online. Amazon are considering employing their own delivery drivers as not happy with Hermes service amongst other reasons. They don't give a tinker's cuss about the number of drivers on the roads. Well I disagree a lot of younger buyers who make up most of online buying are more interested in the environment that the older posters on this site and are prepared to pay a bit more to protect the environment.
