Non-Believer
Where will this facility be sited I wonder, extra dishes on the top of Snaefell? It's geographically pretty central to the British Isles so it would fit in with the stated coverage aims?

Guessing but I would have thought somewhere much closer to descents telecoms infrastructure or an existing data canter. Sounds like a big job to get to the top of that there huge mountain. AcousticallyChallenged
Interesting video on how well Starlink can theoretically perform with ground relays exclusively. Mark Handley talks about the theoretical latencies with different configurations of satellite to satellite links too.

Given the embarrassing way that Musk fanboys tend to behave at the best of times and the embarrassing way in which the IOMG tends to behave when confronted with anyone remotely resembling a 'celebrity', we're never going to be able to uncurl our toes again, aren't we?
Ramseyboi
So the comments on the Manx Radio FB about this are typical, to be expected, show why this island is so held back and frankly a bit embarrassing

An example of how the island should really be pushing onto the world stage. Now invite them to use us as a test ground for autonomous vehicles and get the PR machine rolling. Let's not get carried away. We're talking about a satellite uplink here. These things are typically more or less run remotely. Remember the island does have a track record in this type of thing, and it’s connections in the Space Communications/Satellites industry. What is worrying though is what Ramseyboi has commented, look at the Nations Propaganda Mouthpiece FB page - it’s mostly negative bolshy Socialist Manxies who think that Elon Musk is moving to the island. He wants to set up a satellite station and he has 2 others in the UK already. He wouldn’t come or want to live here, if anything even if he has a super yacht, I doubt he would still come here. Ramseyboi
Fully aware of that thanks. Doesn’t mean that if done properly and efficiently it can’t open a conversation with people within the organisation to seek the benefits of doing more on the island with them
SleepyJoe
Who are these negative bolshy Socialist Manxies? Musk will never come here - he'd be gaoled for possession by the authorities

With Liverpool losing its UNESCO status, I would think that IOMG would be obsessing about its BIOSPHERE Status.

He is likely not even aware of this yet the yokals assume he has personally attended a meeting in The Prospect and wants to take over the island. I appreciate most places are the same, but if looking to put business over here or move here you did a google and came across FB it would put you right off. To be honest here is the same. Someone posted in General Chat yesterday or the day before about possibly moving here and the responses were embarrassing

The same ones who complain eternally about developers etc, climate change, politicos and Tynpotwald.
