Anthony Ingham
WTF is this for? Is there going to be a big screen or something? If so where? Nobody goes to North Wuay to watch football so I am a bit confused by the logic. Anyone any clues? ” North Quay in Douglas will be closed for the home nations football matches during this year's Euros. Douglas Council's Regeneration and Community Committee has approved the proposals to shut the quayside for England, Scotland and Wales games. The committee says the proposals are still subject to consultation with police. The first closure would be for England's game against Serbia on June 16.”

It’s also closed all summer and has nice seating etc. It’s not the same at all. Edited May 4 by Anthony Ingham

These things are worth trying. @Anthony Ingham no, it is not the same as Castletown, I didn't say it was, but like I say, worth a try. North Quay has not been a route to anywhere for years. Give it a go and let's see, eh? 5 1

That is what is being discussed here.

I'm sure it's just the local council wanting the businesses along there to do better (to me it's more likely that businesses down there suggested it, especially the pubs). Otherwise most people will just head to Jaks or the Porch to watch the matches. It's quite pleasant down there on summer afternoons/evenings when the sun is out - though the beer down that way is shoite (Carling or Okells) and I won't be bothering thanks.

Duh. Because it brings out large crowds of types that like to drink.

Didn't Castletown do something similar for a rugby match? As Albert says the area is already largely pedestrianised. Football is not my thing at all, but if it breathes a bit of life into the place, then why not?

There is nowhere down there to watch the games so everyone will be at The Cat, The Horse and Plough, Jaks, 1886, The Thirsty Pigeon, The Front Porch. 1
Manxman1234
Isn’t there a local councillor on H&B books, who likes to close roads out side H&B pubs, at the expense of other already established Sports bars like Jaks or 1886
