  1. I beg to differ, though the Terrace standards drop when Mark isn’t around. Mondays.
  2. Name a better chippy on island.
  3. Castletown, behind the old cop shop. Best restaurant on the island.
  4. You need to broaden your horizons and visit the latter.
  5. As a semi-competent home cook, I only take my family out to places that won’t result in a ‘I could have done that better at home’ verdict at the end of the evening. Only the Terrace Chippy and Kizuna tick those boxes. Apart from the above, eating out in the Isle of Man is shite.
  6. I have an Amex card registered to my Isle of Man address. Does this mean I can max it out and fuck them off? Asking for a friend, obviously
  7. Amazon Firesticks have started blocking IPTV apps/portals which enable installation or updates of IPTV apps. Better to use something more generic like a Xiaomi stick.
  8. My better half had her further leave to remain processed about a week or two after the previous anticipated processing time late last year. Simple clarification questions were asked after this had passed which suggests it was started late. I guess the simple explanation is that they’re mad busy- they’ve got an AO and and an EO vacancy posted on the Jobtrain website, so I imagine they’re increasing their headcount due to increased workload. They must be coining it down there, unless the processing fees are sent across.
  9. Alf's dream society is a load of HNWIs supported by submissive semi-literate locals, and gullible migrants exploited by a shady recruitment agency. Doha of the north.
  10. You’ve been paying far too much attention to the demographic of your previous employer.
  11. Easiest way to get round this, if you’re of a nervous disposition, for the football is to get a VPN that has servers in the Middle East and to subscribe to TOD (Bein Sports’ streaming service). Get all the Premier League games for about 15 quid a month, and without the annoyance of Sky Sports cranking up the volume in the advert breaks. Flip side is that you’re back in a 90’s timewarp with Richard Keys and Andy Grey hosting the games.

    Firm closing

Don’t want to piss on his pasta, but if there were a Pizza Express next door, his place would be half-empty.
  13. Any truth in the Twitter gossip that suggests Tesco are buying Mezeron?
  14. Sadly he is the nearest thing we have got to one. All other media outlets are reliant on the IOMG & its tentacles for advertising revenue so don't dare sail close to the wind for fear of biting the biggest hand that feeds them.
  15. In my somewhat biased opinion we haven't seen a top quality Manx kipper on the Isle of Man since Tony Curtis sold his fish yard and went off to retire in sunny Ecuador over 20 years ago, where he will celebrate his 81st birthday this Sunday. I very much doubt if the increased catch will be able to be processed on island. Devereaus & Paddy's have been using frozen Baltic herring for years, and have probably already have planned stock in hand for this years orders/local stock. Back in the day, kipper curers used to rely on casual labour (mostly local school kids and Irish students on their summer holidays) for surges in supply to fulfil fresh and frozen demand. Sometimes they would work 70 hour weeks, and the next they could be doing just a handful of hours across a very short 12 week herring season. There just isn't the demand or supply chain for what is now regarded of more of an occasional curiosity than a regular cooked breakfast. Any additional supply, for this summer at least, will probably just end up being sent across & processed for fishmeal in Kilkeel or Portavogie, particularly if they're too small for processing or if the current processors don't have enough staff or working equipment for a bumper landing. Most of the splitting machines and kilns, and specialists for servicing this equipment are sadly long gone.
  16. …And they’re currently receiving zero advertising revenue from the site. No company in their right mind would want to be associated with that bin fire.
  17. Not to mention everyone having FlightRadar24 installed on their phones due to the airport arrivals/departures website being utterly gash.
  18. I’d get kickbacks to find immigration loopholes to get HNWIs from places at the very top of the global corruption index over here, and then get out of Dodge before it goes completely GTA with Belarusian and Kyrgyz mobs in the ganglands down in Castle Mona Avenue. I’d then use my kickbacks & call in a few favors to buy a couple of tower blocks in Dubai Marina from the very same HNWIs. I’d then see out my days singing ‘oh land of our birth’ on a massive yacht crewed entirely by Uzbek pole dancers. I’m sure I could get it all signed off by Compliance in no time.
  19. Whenever I arrive on a business/leisure trip in a new place, often at last minute, the first thing I do when I land is fire up Uber, Lyft (or Careem here in the Middle East). If the place isn't served by any of the usual suspects, I assume that local cabbies or hawkers will be in or around the terminal to see me right to my hotel/meeting. Ronaldsway must be one of the few airports in the world where one is not approached by an entrepreneurial local whispering 'taxi?' to newly-arrived passengers!
  20. I spent the afternoon and early early evening here in my living room in Abu Dhabi watching TT+ on my Android TV which, according to Google Play Store, was developed by 'Isle of Man Government'. Kudos to whoever initiated that. The platform and coverage has been absolutely top notch. Perhaps the same unheralded genius(es) could use their skillset to initiate/develop a ride sharing app. Fuck it, they could even sort out the airport carpark, website, monorail and Liverpool terminal while they're at it!
  21. So Uber (and other ride sharing services) work all over the world from the biggest municipalities to the smallest of islands in SE Asia, but wouldn't work in the Isle of Man because the largest conurbation is 15-20 mins from the airport? Uber counters restricted supply and excessive demand by creating additional supply when the demand is high. Imagine how much could be made by residents from all walks of life in TT fortnight if ride sharing services were not barred from operating due to an outdated licencing/business model, not to mention improving visitor experience by having a viable, flexible service.
  22. Seriously? https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/taxi-driver-calls-for-oft-to-investigate-bus-service/ Can we not just get rid of the antiquated plate bandits and just get the likes of Uber over here, and have a proper supply and demand based service like in any other normal place? 25 quid plus tip for an 8 mile ride from Douglas on a bank holiday to the airport to hear about the cabbie's latest all-inclusive holiday to Dubai/Thailand etc is taking the proverbial.
  23. It's to trigger the Scousers.
