  1. Could be. My mother taught at Ballaugh, ~5 years after a recession her class size would drop dramatically.
  2. Yes, it is / was. Wasn't it almost double? Manx Utilities - Domestic tariffs
  3. Didn't the unit price for electricity increase at around that time?
  4. A figure of 2% was stated somewhere. Live of a rock, expect higher costs.
  5. Another option is to host your email with Microsoft or Google. Costs a few quid a month, very reliable, excellent anti-spam. Running one's own mail server is not difficult if you have many company email addresses, but I have just one.
  6. Large parts of rural UK don't have 5G as there's no real need for the bandwidth. I'll not see 5G for quite a few years.
  7. The joy of living on an island. To be honest, I really don't miss all that crap.
  8. If the employees are not on a zero-hour contract then they'll be paid.
  9. It's a generic cheddar-ish sold by supermarkets, has the name of the supplier on it. I'm sure I've seen Manx cheese sold this way. Welcome to Cathedral City - Cathedral City Cheddar
  10. Tesco in Hayle does sell a lot of local produce. And Manx cheese has been cheaper over here than on the rock when packaged as Cathedral Cheese. I think I remember seeing that it was cheaper in the USA.
  11. I don't use Tesco as there isn't one close to me but a few weeks ago was at Tesco in Hayle. Most impressed. Despite the endless winging and moaning from some on the rock, I'm sure it'll be a big improvement.
  12. You can't unless there's good insulation *and* you can fit bigger radiators. Old stone Manx houses would be virtually imporrible.

Maybe. You can tell when it's term-time at the university - ASDA's vegan shelves are bare. I've seen mummies & offspring loading up the cart with pre-made vegan offerings, many of which are very good indeed.
  14. Very true - I spend more getting my dog groomed per year than two visits to a private dentist. Mother drilled into me the importance of looking after teeth - and not being a scrounger. I do like skip surfing though.
  15. Good luck recruiting dentists. NHS pay is not worth the hassle, at least down here.
  16. I'm entitled to an opinion, it's that simple.
  17. Quite a waiting list at private practices as well, I'm lucky as I am with a good private practice and get my twice-yearly appointments. How many bemoan lack of NHS dentistry but spend money on holidays or other non-essential luxuries?
