I started this post and I think it has run its course.

Tell that to bellyache. But maybe you are one and the same.

What a strange lot of people you are constantly accusing people of being one and the same.

I was thinking the same. Perhaps they're government agents, eh?

Kaupthing Singer and Friedman was the combination of two well known institutions. The Derbyshire Building Society and Singer and Friedman Bank.

The singer Dean Friedman is performing at Peel Centenary Centre in August. How spooky is that? Can't be just a coincidence can it?

Ideal chance to ask him for your money back, I suggest

Up to now the government has said it will hold an inquiry into the collapse of KSFIoM but that it would be conducted in secret and the findings will not be made public. Now I wonder why that should be? If the government thinks that neither the FSC nor the directors did anything wrong then what is there to hide? I have been sniffing around the corridors of power and there's rather a bad smell coming from under closed doors. Does anyone else have a whiff of it?

I believe questions are going to be asked in the Tynwald next week.

Someone must have some answers meanwhile I like this comment by David R Morrison

I quote

'The critical point in the whole Kaupthing debate is thus: the IoM profited, and the IoMG is behoven to the financial community which is not accepting an appropriate level of responsibility for the situation and is set on avoiding just costs. It is not really the responsibility of the Manx tax payer, it is the responsibility of the finance industry. But they hide behind the skirts of the like of Cashen and Gelling, and then IoMG goes along.

It is this simple.

The 'players' are not that innocent. The government and the captive press in the IoM know, they just dissemble.

Let us look at the situation before the nemesis. Cashen and Gelling, you Manxes know who these people are, were receiving a salary for guarding over Kaupthing.

I believe these people are intricately linked with the current Government. They failed spectacularly to protect, or even act with an appropriate modicum of common sense care over their charge. It seems to me the IoM Establishment has set its' mind to protect their progeny from scrutiny.

Now I believe that anybody reading this is perfectly capable of inferring the reason why.

The 'cheapness' of Bell in wasting millions in simply postponing a liquidation in order to obfuscate probably the worst bank failure in Europe during this credit crisis stands out. He was simply abusing the funds of the very same depositors to confound them, the irony is surreal. Iceland is a small island, the IoM is a small island, islands are not having much luck at the moment. Sure so far the ioM has escaped, but let us be aware that what goes around around comes around, the world is going to get tired of 'low-cost' administrations who undercut the market. The time will come. Let's work to find a better solution.

If I had any remaining respect for you, you have dispelled it with one quick link. Regrettably, Tax Research, or Richard wotsisname, don't do their credibility any good by making wild accusations and then singularly failing to understand or respond coherently to the counter arguments. Much like yourgoodself.

Murphy FFS. He's the same anti tax avoidance lobbyist that helped the Guardian's owners avoid Stamp Duty by setting up a trust structure in the bloody Caribbean. He then claimed it wasn't tax avoidance because it was Stamp Duty.

Looks like he'll say anything as long as someone pays him!

Have you seen the Deputy Deemsters judgement today?

Latest news from House of Keys:

QUOTE (Manx radio):

"Government takes advice on recovering Kaupthing losses

Published online at 01/07/2009 04:12:27

Legal advice has been taken over whether financial losses incurred as a result of the crash of Kaupthing bank could be recovered.

In a written question in the House of Keys, Rushen MHK Juan Watterson asked about the possibility of recovering any or all of the money lost by the Isle of Man Treasury, depositors with the bank and holders of banking licences in the Island.

Mr Watterson suggested action could be taken against Her Majesty's Treasury, the United Kingdom's Financial Services Authority or the Icelandic financial services regulator.

In his reply, Treasury Minister Allan Bell says advice has been taken from the Attorney General and from what he calls 'specialist Queen's Counsel', but no action is being taken on the matter of legal challenge.

He adds the legal position is kept under periodic review."

Now WHY would they be advised thus? Because they know they are at fault? Because they fear reprisals from London? For the good of depositors?? Or ... ??

Its only money, who cares?

You'd care if it were your life savings.

I'd care even more and not put all my life savings in one bank.

I also would have cared enough not to have put all my savings into an offshore bank account in a jurisdiction that until very recently only guaranteed the first 75% of up to £20k rather than al local high street bank with a lower interest rate and a guarantee of 100% of up to £50k, but then again I don’t need to worry about this sort of thing as I don’t have any savings and it very unlikely I ever will.

Yay links to Murphy that link to the well respected Manx Herald, the views expressed in the linked article must be fair accurate and balanced.
