Fantastic so we now know the prices of petrol in some of the densest populated areas of the UK, did you bother to check remote areas that would have comparable costs of getting fuel to the area etc as the IoM, i.e.

Your search for Bangor found 18 petrol stations within 10 miles.

The Highest price in this area for unleaded: 125.90p

The Average price in this area for unleaded: 124.40p

The Lowest price in this area for unleaded: 122.90p

Your search for Portree found 2 petrol stations within 10 miles.

The Highest price in this area for unleaded: 129.10p

The Average price in this area for unleaded: 129.10p

The Lowest price in this area for unleaded: 129.10p

Your search for Coll found 5 petrol stations within 10 miles.

The Highest price in this area for unleaded: 136.90p

The Average price in this area for unleaded: 136.90p

The Lowest price in this area for unleaded: 136.90p

Your search for Campbeltown found 1 petrol station within 10 miles.

The Highest price in this area for unleaded: 126.90p

The Average price in this area for unleaded: 126.90p

The Lowest price in this area for unleaded: 126.90p

Oh lookee the Isle of man is not so bad after all

Those wonders of economics, the OFT, said that our prices should be UK average plus 4 ppl. I leave you to calculate what that comes to but it is not Coll or Portree prices.

According to the AA's Fuel Price report for this month the UK averages are:

122.1 ppl for Regular Unleaded

129.4 ppl for Super Unleaded

126.2 ppl for Diesel

So by the OFT's reckoning IOM prices should be roughly:

126.1 ppl for Regular Unleaded

133.4 ppl for Super Unleaded

130.2 ppl for Diesel

I paid 126.9 ppl for regular unleaded at Raymotors on Xmas Eve - that's 4.8 ppl above UK average, so within a penny of what the OFT reckon we should be paying. What are the local prices for super and diesel at the moment?

So we were told on granada reports IOM highest by a lot :o

Yes it was reported that it was 132.9 a litre for petrol, now it was 126.9 so a rise in fuel duty of 0.76p on the 1st Jan,plus the vat rise of 2.45p works out at 3.21p in total which is 129 odd,not 131/132,the retailers have slapped a rise on for themselves of 2/3p,this seems to be common practice every time the taxes rise so does their profits,so what has the useless OFT got to say,not another report for CO-MIN.

I agree - the figures don't make sense - to get 137.9 for diesel would be a starting figure of 135.0p a litre before increasing the VAT - do they think we are too stupid to do the maths? The fuel companies are ripping us off again.

You've obviously researched this quite a bit. Do you know if any of them give a 20% discount for cash?

and petrol price is right,

base line of 108.9 add 20% add 0,75 and it comes out at 131.9-132.9

derv

but the starting figures was 133.9 for the past 2 weeks by my fuel bills.

so they have added 4 ppl on which is 137.9 simples really.

so not sure where your getting your 1.26 from.

fuel at 133.9 - the fuel with no vat is 113.9 old rate

113.9 add the 20% vat is 136.68, round that up to 136.9, add in the tax of 0.75p and that gets rounded up to 1ppl

which gives you the range of 137.9.

so price for derv is between 136.9-138.9.

so yes maybe they do think your too stupid to do the maths?

so not sure where your getting your 1.26 from. - Neither do I because I didn't have that figure. If you mean 135.0 -it is what you get if you take the VAT of 20% off 137.9 and replace it with 17.5%

fuel at 133.9 - the fuel with no vat is 113.9 old rate

113.9 add the 20% vat is 136.68, round that up to 136.9, add in the tax of 0.75p and that gets rounded up to 1ppl

When I was taught maths I was taught to only round figures at the end of a calculation not several times during it! I do not see the necessity for prices to always end in .9 - it is ripping us off!

When I bought petrol on the 28th December 2010 the price on the pump was 126.9 a litre, now its either 131.9 or 132.9 a litre, that is the total price everybody sees not a mix of figures which you have shown,we know that somewhere in the total price there is a fuel tax and vat,but as was the news, fuel tax went up by 0.76p and vat by 2.35p,this does not add up to 4 or 5 pence.

fuel at 133.9 - the fuel with no vat is 113.9 old rate
