Mhks - Choose 3, Lose 3

As it says; if you could get rid of 3 of the current crop next September, who would they be, and why.

And then, from the current crop, which 3 would you like to see retain their seats, and why.

LOSE:

Tony Brown - he rose beyond the level of his own incompetence (probably around the time he was first elected)

Martyn Quayle - he has developed incompetence into a veritable art form.

David Anderson - almost as big a disaster as Quayle but keeps his head down and moves departments often enough that his errors are passed on to others.

CHOOSE:

Steve Rodan - for so often being a thorn in Brown's side and for his work on the RHA.

Juan Watterson - he's worked hard and probably deserves another chance.

Chris Robertshaw - needs more time. shows promise.

I know its hard to stick to 3 - especially in the 'LOSE' bit - but do your best. :)

LOSE:

John Houghton - Dumb

Martyn Quayle - Dumber

Adrian Earnshaw - Dumbest

CHOOSE:

Phil Gawne - Consistent in supporting measures for the modernisation of Tynwald; appears to have done a reasonable job at Daff; has begun the task of tackling the problems at the DOI; generally (nationalism aside) he's closest to me politically.

Chris Robertshaw - I've been very impressed with his contributions since he joined. Brings a considered alternative point of view to Tynwald.

I'd like to say Juan Watterson for the reasons you state, which are all true, however he's my MHK, and there's a few bits & pieces that I'd like to know his position on before September. So, for the time being third choice is John Shimmin.

My gosh Declan - I'm surprised Mr Brown isn't down on your lose list. If he gets back in he'll be after a second term. Shivers!

I'm not close enough to the local politics to make a strong statement on who I'd like to keep and who I'd like to go.

Brown gone for certain.

Bell and Gawne seem reasonable, though no one stands out to me as being particularly amazing.

LOSE:

Cannan - the ego has crash landed

Malarkey - elected on LV ticket, didn't pay for it

Corkish - did nothing, said nothing, a waste of tax

CHOOSE:

Gill - thinks for himself and unafraid of rocking the boat

Gawne - the farm boy done good AND he's a nationalist

Teare - does the jobs those looking for a safe seat wouldn't dare

Allan Bell - Hopes he can retire quietly having been the Treasury's own Cassandra for years

Annie Craine - Rabbit in the headlights

Eddie Teare - Bela Lugosi's trainee accountant son in law

David Cannan - Still angry after 30 years

Tim Crookall - Still needs a passport to go to Douglas on the bus

Stephen Rodan - Scottish and has a mustache

David Anderson - Bald and angry and still trying to spell the word education

Martyn Quayle - Is he still alive and living in Middle?

Peter Karran - Forrest Gump's older wiser brother

David Quirk - Has a better cloaking devise that the 'Predator'

Adrian Earnshaw - Models his life on Rob Lowe in Mannequin - nothings going to stop him now

John Houghton - Wakes up angry, furious by lunchtime

Bill Henderson - Wakes up angry, John Houghton convinces him he's furious by lunchtime

David Cretney - Cheap cards & wrapping paper at Christmas but you can't get the bus into town in time for the sale

Bill Malarky - An unhilarious man with a surname suggestive of vague hi-jinks

Chris Robershaw - Lets see what happens

Brenda Cannell - Calm down, calm down. Just like the Royle family Christmas special - unemployed and funny once a year

John Shimmin - Still relying on those magic spells at hogwarts to make a difference

Geoff Corkish - Deaf dumb and blind but sure plays mean pinball

Tony Brown - God where do we even begin to start

Graham Cregeen - Stop wait a minute Mr Postman

Juan Watterson - Doogie Howser the child genius needs to be given a Ministry. The Ministry of funny handshakes.

Quintin Gill - Proof that social workers prefer polyester

Phil Gawne - He'll burn the house down

I reckon Brown will be looking for elevation to el Presidente. Leaving a fight for the Chief Minister post.

LOSE:

Quirk - utterly useless and seems as thick as dog shit

Crookall - see above

Malarkey - I'm no fan of Lib Van, but the way he rode on PK's coat tails and then turned to the dark side is reprehensible and I simply cannot trust him. Plus his wife is a pain in the ass too. (I fully expect to see her try and make her way into the Keys this time round)

KEEP:

Rodan - just seems to be a cut above the rest

Bell - don't like his personality as such, but he seems to be fairly competent on economic issues

Teare - as with Bell, there is something of the dark side about him, but somebody needs to tackle the Education empire and make it fit for purpose. Some work started and he should get more time to see it through - I can't see anyone else having the balls to.

LOSE:

Brown - for obvious reasons

Quayle - for even more obvious reasons

Earnshaw - for yet more obvious reasons and for the sake of Onchan, which I fear may be sectioned en mass if he gets back in

Corkish, Anderson, Crookall and Quirk - because who would really notice?

Bell - because replacing him with a balloon with a face drawn on it and a tape recording of his civil servants speaking would be a far more cost effective alternative.

Houghton - because giving him the opportunity to sit in Tynwald is taking human rights too far.

Malarkey - just ghastly.

...and, of course, Teare. Doesn't ever really seem to know what he's doing, and resorts to unthinking bean counting too readily.

KEEP:

Er...ah....hmmm.

Robertshaw - Well intentioned and deserves a chance, though I suspect he's a better figure to have in opposition than in government.

Rodan - at least has some kind of initiative.

The rest I'm not that fussed about either way.

EDITED TO ADD: Although at first glance it looks like I'm breaking the rules of the game in the number of choices made, I put it to the judge that the ten choices in the Lose category are so lacking or outright rubbish that to regard each as an individual MHK is too kind; like comparing the dregs in a discarded six pack of Tennents to six measures of good whiskey.

I think I agree with you almost completely here Declan (much to my surprise)

I'd put Bell in my keep list instead of Shimmin though

This would have been easier as "Lose 21 choose 3"

LOSE

Quirk: thick, useless waste of space

Henderson: see above. Has embarrassed the IOM on BBC radio and TV during interviews by coming across like the village idiot.

Cregeen: Probably didn't expect to get in. Walking and pushing mail through letterboxes was probably pushing the limit of his intellect.

Special mention for T Brown: Seems to be in favour of a socialist state where Govt is responsible for every aspect of our daily lives from buying white goods to taking our baggage from the plane to the carousel at Ronaldsway.

CHOOSE

Gawne: intelligent, passionate supporter of IOM interests but with a grip on what IOM needs to do to succeed

Teare: taking the necessary measures to cut spending without fear of his own position as an elected member..unlike others.

Robertshaw: good potential and comes across very well

I think we should rule Brown out of the running for lose or keep. Ther perceived wisdom is that he won't be standing in the General Election because he will stand to succeed Cringle as President and move up into the Legislative Council in July
