Lxxx
About to re-open? http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/the-mailbox-bar-could-re-open-1-5726826 Grape and Grain Limited, based in Parsonage Glebe, in St Johns, has announced that it will apply to the licensing court sitting on June 13 for the transfer of the alcohol licence from Rivertown Limited. In addition, the company will apply to vary one of the terms of the licence, to allow under 16s to be on the premises until 10pm or 10.15pm, if finishing a substantial meal. Most over-priced, over-rated place on the island before it went kaput. Hopefully the new owners will take note and not try to disappear up their own backsides like the last lot did, charging central London prices on a small island like this. woolley
Were they paying central London rent? More fool them if they were. Others take note.

Lxxx
It's going to be called SALT and serve Californian cuisine apparantly. What's wrong with just serving good food?
Lonan3
According to Wiki, California cuisine is a style of cuisine marked by an interest in fusion cuisine (integrating disparate cooking styles and ingredients) and in the use of freshly prepared local ingredients. The food is typically prepared with strong attention to presentation. I think this probably translates as 'style but little substance for a stupidly high price.' So, no change there, then. John Wright
so spuds n herring (local ingredients) with a sprig of parsley on top for presentation or a burger (the fusion from that disparate far away place California) with a sprig of basil or another herb and a micro salad for presentation
Kopek
Hamburger with Thai curry then?? To be fair, with so much sameness in Cafe/Restaurant menus these days, this could be a welcome change if they get it right. What about a GFL sandwich? Grape, Foie Gras and lemongrass? Corpulent. mbx
I saw a picture on FB of someone's lunch from there in a bento box. It looked like a couple of sushi rolls, a ham sandwich, some lettuce leaves/radicchio and a few grapes. £4.95 to you
