Pierrot Lunaire Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Game set and fucking championship! Well done Andy! I'd love to have watched this, but it didn't seem to be on the tellybox. I like Andy Murray. Amazing achievement and a splendid year for the lad.
Mission Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Well done Andy, now is it too much to ask that you put us out of our misery and win Wimbledon next year please? I'd really rather like to witness a British player winning it at least once in my lifetime. It would have been nice to watch the US Open on the telly for sure (what's with the final being on a Monday in the first place?). They showed the French Open, didn't they?
Declan Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Monday evening is a big night for "sports" in America. It was pitched for prime time there. Available on Sky Sports I think (my hotel didn't have access), but commentry on 5live was good.
Pierrot Lunaire Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Was on Sky Sports 1. Fuck that.
Shill Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Was a fantastic match to watch. So many great rallies. Was to'ing and fro'ing all the way. Andy closed it out in the end in just under 5 hours. I am so glad he has now won a grand slam event, it gets that monkey off his back. More success to come I feel next season for him.
Albert Tatlock Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Was to'ing and fro'ing all the way.I find Tennis is a bit boring if it isn't. I expect he'll be 'British' again soon at this rate. Twas a good match tho, spectators got their money's worth anyhoo.
alibaba Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Was on Sky Sports 1. Fuck that. It was on various channels and sopcast streams if you knew where to look. Sod Murdoch.
ACLDM Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Totally enthralling match - honestly didn't think he'd recover after Novak won the 3rd and 4th set, but the boy did good. Best tennis player the British Isles have produced for a long long time.
Shill Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Or ever really. Fred Perry won more granted but it's prety hard to compare.
DRIVER Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Or ever really. Fred Perry won more granted but it's prety hard to compare. He still has his designer clothing range
Pierrot Lunaire Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 Fred Perry won more granted but it's prety hard to compare. I reckon I could have won Wimbledon.
wrighty Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Fred Perry won more granted but it's prety hard to compare. I reckon I could have won Wimbledon. Brilliant video - I had to watch it again to make sure it wasn't a Harry Enfield sketch. I have to agree that the game then was nothing in comparison to today's - impossible to say who is best as you can only compare people from the same era, but if it was possible to transport Fred Perry forward to today and put him against Andy Murray, I doubt he'd return a serve, let alone win a game.

Bjorn Borg is one of my all time favourites. When he played Roscoe Tanner in the Wimbledon final, people marvelled at Tanner's serve speed which was up to 100 MPH. Nowadays Serena William can serve over 120 MPH.
