Hmmmm..... Interesting.

You know a close and trusted friend informs me that letters have been written regarding issues and concerns arising in relation to this for years. By staff themselves. And these issues are systematically swept under Snaefell and ignored. People have also been "encouraged " to leave

for sticking their head above the parapet.

The rot would appear to run deep and tower high.

Are sure you have followed and read through

the link properly?

Im sure NHS staff on the IOM have not been whistle blowing about events in Scotland's hospitals.

No - i would of thought it was obvious that I was talking about the isle of man but if not, I apologise. The article was interesting AND out of interest staff HERE have been concerned about HERE for years ...... Yadda.... Yadda....... [ sigh ]

The BBC article hopefully demonstrates to people here that the 'across is better - Noble's is crap' mentality that unfortunately seems fairly commonplace is simply not true. The fact is that the majority of people who experience the health service on the island have a positive experience. On the other hand, everyone has heard horror stories of things that go wrong. But bad stuff happens in the UK too, as this and other easily findable examples demonstrate.

wrighty, how much faith do you have in the management of Nobles Hospital? Have you ever come across anyone who has made a complaint that has been 'dealt with' by that management?

I have seen some particularly ignorant responses to people who have dared to complain that have come right from the top of the tree. The typical attitude seems to be "We're government what are you going to do about it?"

  • 4 months later...

I love Nobles hospital, they've saved my dads life, twice and are not risking operating on him again so, are sending him off to England for non-invasive treatment for his latest illness - parents hey, who'd have em? That is totally ace though. There were 4 other people in the room with me paaaa, they all looked like they were getting better. Maybe the people who have bad experiences are looking for them, careful what you wish for an all that, pma, pma baby.

Not exactly a serious matter - but my son broke his wrist playing football a couple of weeks ago. As I have ALWAYS found, the level of care at Noble's Hospital was superb. In particular, when the specialist wasn't happy with things, my son had an operation under general anaesthetic to manipulate the wrist and make sure the break was set properly.

The care I received, about a year ago, when I had my heart problems was magnificent - as was the aftercare. Sometimes, I don't think people realise just how lucky we are to have such a wonderful facility for such a small population.

It is indeed a wonderful facility but it isn't without its issues like any other. But as Mid Staffordshire has shown its how you deal with them.

They're quite crafty and if you do make a complaint, make sure that everything is wrote down, particularly emailed, as it retains the date and never do a one to one without recording your meeting and be prepared to wait a lengthy time as memory loss is a bonus to them.

Speaking from experience?

'A few' experiences and none mine either.

Same type of waiting game, wait till it dies down, don't contact them unless there's no other choice, frustrate them, have appointment in the afternoon as people are more tired, heat turned up, ask different questions from different angles to confuse and then go for the kill.

Winner virtually every time

I went to see an Advocate to pursue Noble's Orthopaedics department for negligence, the Advocate listened to what I and my wife had to say, he then read through my medical records and told me that I had in his opinion 95% of "winning".

My wife and I decided to not pursue Noble's through the courts because they had already shown to us that they close ranks and back each other to the hilt when it comes to hiding the truth and accepting responsibility and we didn't fancy being left with a £400k plus bill based on a gamble which in all honesty in a just world would either never have happened or if it did would have been compensated for without question.

This scenario of mine, is I assume, not isolated and there would be countless others in a similar situation.
