Thomas Jefferson
These lines were there for a couple of hours and what was originally a sunny day soon changed to hazy fog which lasted until the late afternoon. How many commercial planes include zig zag manouvers over Douglas Bay in their flight plan? Wake up and smell the coffee chems. Edited to add: you'll need to click on the photo to see what I'm talking about. You can't see much from the thumbnail.

mojomonkey
I'm sure I'll regret getting involved in this thread but here goes. Are you saying you saw one single plane zigzagging over Douglas to create those particular lines?
Thomas Jefferson
Con trails from commercial planes -- do they last for hours and cause a sunny day to turn to fog?
mojomonkey
Did you see one singular plane making those particular lines?
Thomas Jefferson
I saw the object making one of the lines and it was not a commercial plane, it was a small plane like they use for the red arrows. I've seen normal planes plenty of times and they don't leave trails like that which last for hours.

mojomonkey
There is a huge volume of planes that cross over the Island all the time, hence the zigzag patterns of contrails when the weather is correct for them form, see: As we've done this topic before I'm not going to repeat all that's been said before but a understanding of basic physics and weather explains all you need to know about contrails. spook
Whatever the cause of those trails, and I would be more than inclined to believe that they were 'con-trails' that persisted due entirely to high altitude winds and temperatures, nonetheless there is on record traceable evidence of the deliberate deployment of chemicals, some quite nasty and even carcinogenic, from aircraft and for a variety of reasons over parts of the UK. As a starting point type 'chemical trials Norwich' into a search engine and see what turns up.

Maybe they're the sods spewing out pollution which caused a perfectly clear and sunny morning to suddenly turn into a foggy day.
Thomas Jefferson
Can someone please draw a diagram on a map or something to show what range of the sky we're actually able to see from Douglas Promenade?
