Anyone know what the story is behind this -

A swastika in IOM advertising.

It's an early 1930s poster by Reginald Higgins depicting Godred Croven landing on the island in 1079.

We did have a lot of German visitors. I'd guess the poster was done between 1933 and 1935. I doubt they'd have done it after the Nuremberg Laws in 1935 when it became evident to the rest of the world where things were headed.

Below is a scan of an original pre-1930 poster. The small detail on the reverse is interesting.

Only direct links to specific images can be used by trendy people who don't have Facebook. Jeez, even my cat has his own Facebook account.

The only problem is you can't get a direct link to a specific image without depending on someone else to post links, and there are just so many of them, which is why maybe a "best of" thread with labels/descriptions might be in order.

Isn't this what's happening at the Museum? Haven't had time to visit, maybe in a couple of weeks once my dog's better and I can come over...

I have no idea (do you mean the imuseum?) If so, that's pay per view, if not, it's of no use to me as they don't open on evenings or Sundays so I have yet to have the opportunity to visit.

Just post a comment on the page asking about the photo. I'm sure someone on there will be happy to help!

That's a sensible idea for sure but I like to do my own thing as a rule.

Maybe someone could do a "best of" thread where such URLs are pasted in for people who don't have Facebook, as I assume there are copyright issues with directly uploading them to this forum (plus that would be pointless duplication).

That sounds like a great idea and if the mods have no objection I think we should start one up for each town maybe? It doesn't have to be images from manx nostalgia exclusively, it can be images we upload ourselves or anything we find elsewhere on the web.

Jeez, even my cat has his own Facebook account.

Uh, oh, woah, hmmmmmmmmmmmm it couldn't be could it, nah, surely not - heh, I just think I shat the bed and had an epiphany after that little gem...

Google? WTF is that?

Yes, that's it. Nice one. Someone's photoshopped Kylie out though.

Visionary bastards, using undreamt of technology to erase a person not then born, astride an animal long since extinct! What they needed was a decent war to stop them fiddling!

You obviously don't remember the classical music evenings at the Bungalow in the 1970's.

It is not hard to search on Manx Nostalgia the search note will pick up on any word that is in a post, it has become very popular and it is random which is part of the fun as someone post 1 photo somebody has another one similar.

Lots of picture are of groups of people like one I put up yesterday I had no idea who or where it was but a couple of hours most of the people had been named.

I don't know if you have to be a member of Facebook but if you do put in as little information about yourself as you want then ask to join Manx Nostalgia and you can just look and comment or upload any pics you may have to share with others.

I agree about Facebook - I'm on my second account now, this time I have little info. The adverts are a pain - trying to hook me up with Ukrainian women and what appear to be Asian transvestites.

But all-in-all a minimal Facebook account isn't bad, I found someone on the island who I knew well and hadn't seen for over 40 years. The Nostalgia page is worth it on its own.
