*Conspiracy theory alert*

Telling the public that the place was going to be used as a compound for the next two years may not be wise.

Put the word out that the place has been sold, that'll shut them up.

There was something certainly very weird about Claire Bettisons “leak” about developer interest as clearly the DOI has had its eye on this site almost from day one when they made up plans for their stupid £21M mega project.

so what's the maximum????????????????????????????????????

wouldn't be 15 would it..........

Not everyone working on the scheme would need to use the yard.

If theres a gang of twenty working on a bit, only one of them would need to go and get a mini-digger from the yard for example.

It would be mainly site managers, surveyors, etc using the yard.

Perhaps they have sold the plot and then rented it back for two years....stranger things have happened, of course it would be for a knock down price but would keep the public happy.    Then when the promenade was complete the buyers could start on their project of course there would be inconvenience, road closures and lots of heavy traffic but we would be used to it by then.   A cunning stunt....

In my experience it is - they're usually only too keen to emphasise how virtuous they are.  But in some cases they may declare an interest and still speak (mentioning the interest) or even vote - not even being present is unusual.  And if someone isn't going to vote for such a reason, they really out to get the permission of the President to absent themself and not vote, because if a member of Tynwald is available they are supposed to be in the sitting and vote.  You're not meant to abstain in Tynwald.

There's nothing in Bettison's declaration of interest to suggest anything disqualifying and I can't see any family connection (her father is big in Conservative local government in Britain, but there doesn't seem to be a link with Berkeley on his declaration).  So it's a mystery.

Of course the usual pattern in the Isle of Man is to go ahead and deny any conflict of interest even when there is one - like Boot giving himself planning permission earlier in the month. Usually everyone on the gravy train will ignore it and expect that other will return the favour.

Now...interesting letter in this week's combined Examiner/Indy (Letters, Page 16) from the redoubtable Trevor Cowin of Peel who, depending on your point of view, is either a thorn in the side of Govt or somebody with too much time on his hands...Mr Cowin claims to have uncovered a change to planning policy under the good Baron.

Planning produced in July last, a document entitled Operational Policy on Interested Person Status. This empowers the good Baron to award "Interested Person" status only to persons who live within 20 metres of the boundary relating to any proposed planning application.

Mr Cowin claims that this has never been announced and has been introduced through the back door; his query to the Dept has elicited the response that they intended to announce it sometime at the end of this year or the beginning of next. Having been introduced 5 months ago.

So if a mock Tudor highly des res suddenly appears next to your own bijoux...if it's more than 20 metres away you'll get no chance to object, it would appear. All hail the good Baron for greasing the wheels for the monied?

The report doesn't say that....  It actually says "The plan includes five portable cabins, intended to be used by up to 15 staff a day"

you must be able to sleep more than 3 per cabin ??   they can sleep 3 in a ford transit cab.
