Undemocratic Farce !

If Mr Bell considers that a review of Tynwald is needed then why as Chief Minister has he not done anything about it ?

Separation of powers. Executive c.f Legislature (Tynwald c.f Government)

And self interest from ALL the Members...it's the best paying job most of them have ever had.

It is baffling to me that Bell supposedly realises the enormity of the ongoing fiscal issues the island faces and yet remains tight lipped whilst millions of pounds of taxpayers money are thrown at people who frankly are as far removed from skilled legislation oversight as you could possibly get. FFS two skilled advocates decided to put themselves up for public service and were completely ignored what does that say about the system !

Aye, the gravy boat sails on, with its cargo of fat cats and white elephants coming home to roost

This sums it up for me:

Mr Bell told the Economic Policy Review Committee yesterday that there is a clear need for an external review of Tynwald bodies & structures

Why this is not being reported in the meja today is something of a mystery

Because Bell has correctly identified that the whole, rotten structure is incapable of self-appraisal and regulation?

Plus he has neither the means, spine, stomach or balls to enforce it himself?

And lets not piss around here. "External" means outside the IoM. Which means UK. He knows how bad it is. It's an admittance/invitation to come in and sort matters out essentially, IMHO.

But nothing will be sorted out until the establishmnet have sucked out as much as they can in inflated wages and pension pay offs.

Someone somewhere will have a graph drawn which will show just when the Isle of Man has this amount of money left - zilch.

And on that day, if you look, you will see that gravy boat sailing out against the sky. Full of laughing fat cats.

The Legislative Council elections are just the public face of what is happening within the Isle of Man Civil Service.

Quite right.

Though it's completely understandable why so many posters on MF don't appreciate/understand the distinction between government and parliament (Tynwald) when the two are so often indistinguishable. And of course it often suits the likes of Cannell (for example) to quietly take her government cash as a Department member but big up her parliamentary persona as a scrutiny committee chair. The confusion is only deepened when every member of parliament (bar Karran??) is also a member of government. In Westminster terms this of course would be a nonsense, perhaps further illustrating why our aping of the UK model is silly.

Nominations for MLC's. Anderson,Crookhall and Braidwood.

No other nominations have been received.

Neither of the Advocates from the previous election have come forward.

By them not making a stand removes any resemblance to a properly conducted democracy.

Sadly who can blame them given the MHK's attitude in ensuring this stays their redundancy club

The position of MLC is the poorer for the total lack of quality nominees who will have the skill to truly scrutinise legislation.

An undemocratic farce.

I was actually aiming at the meritorious mixed metaphor accolade.

You do get the impression that he's really had enough of the whole 'thing' [Tynwald joke there #teehee]

Just as we've really had enough of him.
