When asked if his speech represented his own views on gay marriage, or the catholic church's, Mr Hall responded "we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

This is how the Christian fundamentalist mind works when they are found out.

  1. Play the victim card. It’s all the fault of those atheist / gay/‘internet sleuths’.
  2. Deny any wrong-doing, no matter what the evidence.
  3. Say it was a momentary lapse of judgement for which confession has been made and absolution given.
  4. Lie, lie and lie some more for Jesus.
  5. Play the Christian martyr, make statements like “I would die for my faith”.
  6. Get out the photos of the wife and kid, (always plays well with the media).
  7. Sob and weep and wail.
  8. Speed-dial the ‘Christian Institute’ and ask for Andrea Minichiello Williams.
  9. Give two rousing choruses of “Faith of our fathers” and say that it’s all about freedom of religion.
  10. Pray for a miracle.

You do have to question how he thought he'd get away with it.

Directly copying a Daily Express Columnist isn't exactly difficult to find!!

Zac Hall

This blatant unfairness that has been highlighted was recently challenged in the UK High Court by Rebecca Steinfeld and Charles Keidan, who are in a long-term relationship.

Logic and all notions of equality would suggest that they had an extremely good case; yet, unbelievably, they have lost.

The case was obviously brought to the High Court by this couple to make a very good point, and it is one that cannot be ignored by any government indefinitely. Mr Speaker, the change in the attitude towards homosexuals over the past 30, 40, 50 years has been remarkable and welcome; yet now, most bizarrely, it is heterosexual couples who face discrimination and disadvantage unless this is addressed.

What is even more disturbing in this whole affair, as I understand it, is that under the UK government proposals adults could very soon be able to change their gender by simply filling out an application form. That can already be done in Ireland. It was as a result of pressure from the transgender lobby to end discrimination against transgender and transsexual people.

We got equality for gay partners – now it's time we do the same for straight couples

What's really amusing about this is not just that he copied most of his speech, but that he copied a lot of it from the Irish Bishops, who were so unsuccessful in their persuasion that, in good old Catholic Ireland, the people voted to agree to gay marriage 62% to 38%. It's not a good start.

Some people have been claiming that there is nothing fraudulent in Hall's plagiarism, but even if he is not misrepresenting his views, he is misrepresenting his skills. He is claiming to have thought independently about things and made his case with eloquence when he has just copied other people's work.

Actually I really wonder if he wrote any of it. There was after all no need to make such a long speech and copy so much from so many sources. If you look at the Hansard debate (now available in full), no one else came anywhere near to the length of his speech. Did one of his co-religionists write out a brief for him (perhaps expecting him to just use the bits he wanted) and he decided to plough through the full thing?

Of course the other irony is that all these 'revelations' have been reported by Manx Radio without actually giving the exact source of where they got the information from. It's almost like plagiarism, isn't it 'internet sleuths'?

It's ridiculous to suggest that because Hetrosexual Couple can't have civil partnerships that is a reason to deny marriage to Gay people. The lot of the hetrosexual couple isn't advanced by a ban on gay marriage. In fact, civil partnerships were only introduced as a sop to the anti-Gay marriage people. Robertshaw and Teare have jumped through verbal hoops to explain their opposition and failed and Hall has to call on others work to explain what he thinks. What they haven't shown is who would be harmed - Robertshaw blathered about children, Hall about the right of people to disagree, Teare about the length of the consultation but have failed to show a link.

Zac Hall thinking for himself? That would be miraculous! I know you don’t think he did that all by himself, because the odds are that he didn’t.

I wondered if he might have had help from a certain quarter; a former Minister’s daughter from the IOM who was a political intern for a Member of Parliament in the UK? She was placed in that particular M.P’s office by a rabidly homophobic outfit in the UK called C.A.R.E?

This is all about witch hunts.

Witch hunts against homesexuals are being replaced by witch hunts against those who disagree with same sex marriage.

And all done from a keyboard . . .

Those who live by the Google search die by the Google search.

In witch hunts against homosexuals people were imprisoned, chemically castrated, and worse when you go further back in time.

I'm simply highlighting someone has failed to show his speech isn't original and trying to understand why he would do that.

Do you really see some parity of outcomes?
