We should jail a few people, put the loan down to a criminal act then refuse to pay

Absolutely.

No way could the loan by Barclays could ever have been considered as a properly conducted loan agreement.

History has shown this bank was poorly regulated and unfit for purpose.

We should have refused to repay any of the loan and should renege on it now!

None of our boys and girls have the bottle.

Just keep screwing the peasants.

Unfortunately it is the low income group who are most deeply affected by these increases in taxes and the consequential loss of spending power. Pensioners, those on zero hours or short hours contracts, forced part time workers etc see a sharp change in their standard of living with each tax grab and yet we must protect the low tax status of higher earners.

This is an unfair society and nobody is standing up for the little man amongst our politicians!

I see Allinson has quickly joined the others at the trough.

I had high hopes for Allinson, but he sounded like a right arse on the radio this morning. Dodging every question with, 'The real headline here is that electricity rates stay the same.' Fuck off.

Yes - I am a;ready beginning to regret voting for the good doctor! I also thought it was cynical, the way he tried to "sweeten the pill" by telling us how hard the MUA staff had worked during Storm Doris, last week! Doris had absolutely nothing to do with the water Rate rise.

Oh dear, Alf seems to be modelling himself round Eddie's profile on his latest radio snip.

Effectively said we'll consider which price hike makes the most money.

What else can they do though? They've been left with the enormous MEA debt due to the mismanagement of Bell, Proffitt and co. If you keep on putting up electricity prices, people can, to some extent, decide to use less. And the technology of energy reduction (such as light bulbs, LEDS and so on) helps with this as well as the options to switch to other energy sources.

The water and sewage rates on the other hand are charged irrespective of usage. Put that up and people have to pay whatever. This was one reason for the merger of the MEA with the Water Board, despite all the bogus claims about efficiencies[1]. People have to have water and support for the MEA debt had to come from somewhere.

[1] I believe the other main reason was that they wanted to get rid of some people and, rather than simply sack them, as he had done in previous situations, Bell put an enormously expensive reorganisation in place to try to sideline them.

catch up, the less electric we use the more they charge per unit, it is a captive market and they have a monopoly. unless you can do without electric you are going to be paying no matter what they charge.
