IIRC, he announced rises for domestic users and a slight reduction for commercial users almost exactly 12 months ago. The sewerage charge went up by about £40 at the same time. Just found the "Water and Sewerage rate up by 6.4%" thread from this time last year. He put everything else up instead. But only by the rate of inflation. Apparently. hissingsid Posted February 28, 2018 Share Posted February 28, 2018 Just been on MR justifying rise...historic debt, goodness knows how much interest has been paid on this apart from trying to pay of the actual debt, it is like a noose around the neck, when will it ever be finished with. hissingsid Posted March 1, 2018 Share Posted March 1, 2018 Electricity goes up, everything goes up same as when petrol goes up, all the shops will be hiking their prices to pay the higher power bills, rates will go up , these increases are the worst as they eventually affect everyone twofold, one on a personal level and two on rising food and other commodities. It would surely be much less expensive to upgrade the cable - triplicate it and run DC and NOT AC and connect it to the UK national grid. Install standby generators at certain locations, the hospital as one example, and in so doing benefit from much lower per kw costs to the island and far lower capital costs than a Manx based power generation station. It makes absolutely no sense having a local power station, most UK cities don't have their own power generation plant so for a community with a population of around 80 thou the whole thing smacks of a vanity project quite apart of the sheer craziness of installing the infamous cable carrying AC over the distance that it does.
