so unfortunately the island and sensible visiting bikers  have to deal with this element of inconsiderate bordering on lunatic mentality that some bikers are bringing to the TT festival

The problem is that is the image/brand that we sell so we attract our unfair share of those with that mentality. That then also trickles down to the some of the local population, especially inexperienced drivers.

It is very hard to sell and get people to take in a message of drive and responsibility when we are also trying to sell the Island as the Road Race capital of the world where you can emulate the racers by riding the same course with no limits . In my view the messages are contradictory.

I think you caught a tad too much sun today. Whatever were your parents thinking of.

It’s a reasonable idea

It's an idea, but it's far from reasonable. In fact it is unthinkable.

That statement is almost genius in it's nonsensicalness. Respect

Which bit are you struggling with ?

I have just returned from trying to show a visitor around the course, I have to say that all the way to Ramsey, all the riding I observed was generally quite good with no excessive speed involved. We arrived at Ramsey to find Parliament Square packed with bikes waiting for the Mountain Road to open. We waited a while and there was no sign of it reopening so we came back via the coast road. Again, the bikes we encountered were being ridden in a responsible manner.

I'd suggest that the lack of a limit on the Mountain is counter productive. Not only do the minority of nutters get free reign to endanger the life and limb, of everyone, but the sensible majority get carried along and become afraid of becoming a hazard to the faster bikes. This can lead to normally sensible riders being forced into riding outside their comfort zone, with the obvious possible consequences. The subsequent closure leads to frustrations with further possible consequences. All in all, everyone is a loser, people are unable to ride the road and take in the atmosphere due to the selfish or forced actions of the minority. It needs looking at urgently!

I’m amazed there has never been an insurance issue with deaths on the Mountain one way system,. I’d have thought the minute you make it one way and put in all that traffic management there’s an argument to say it’s not a true public road and you need spacialist cover as it’s designed to allow you to speed and to basically make it a restricted circuit.

Plenty of roads are one way.  It's the lack of speed limit that I'm surprised insurers haven't taken issue with.

What's it got to do with insurers,

Nothing, but if they became concerned at the risks and it then became standard practice to include a derestricted road exclusion on a standard policy that would probably put an end to derestricted roads.

There was an embarrassing situation a few years back where event sponsor Bennett's Bike Insurance declared that they would not cover anyone riding on the Mountain during the TT one way as they deemed it a closed road. They did eventually have to reconsider.

Haven't several 'derestricted ' roads been given speed limits for the moment anyway.

For example while coming towards Douglas , Peel road used to be derestricted from just past St Johns ( After the traffic lights )

It now has a 50 mph limit . I think it was the same last year as well.
