You declare your intention to stand in the media, get twenty voters to sign your nomination form and begin canvassing. There are many rules to be observed but nothing too onerous. Your expenses are printing manifestoes, calling cards, posters and any publicity which you choose. Be prepared to spend a few grand, there is a limit on expenditure and it's hard work.

They give you a postage allowance but you have to spend it and claim it back. I did and it was paid by return of post.
