On the contrary, many folks enjoy staying in private houses to get a real feel of the community they are visiting

Big bed factories are for those who aren't really interested in experiencing 'local' to the max

And the numbers of people who first and foremost just want an inclusive everything plonked in front of them holiday far far exceed the numbers who want to immerse themselves in local "culture".

Which is why the IOM will never again be a mass market tourism destination

The ONLY thing stopping it is the refusal of the government to focus on encouraging it.

They'd be wasting their time completely in a much bigger, probably more expensive way than they currently waste their time

Mass tourism is anyway frowned upon as being highly polluting & damaging to local environments

That and literally thousands of cheaper to reach destinations around the world with almost guaranteed sunshine!

There is a downside to these destinations though. While the sun sand and sangria along with lower costs because of very cheap air travel is a big big plus apart from the sun sand and sangria unless you lay out often very big bucks you're pretty much stuck for what else there is to do.

Here while we do have the sand, and very clean sand too, and even lots of Summer sun but not cheap booze we do have things for families in particular to do. We are also a very popular second holiday and school half term destination. We must be doing something right because the tourist sector here is thriving as is the case with other decent holiday destinations that have not been drowned in immigrants, bogus asylum seekers, and the could work but won't work low life.

I disagree. There are a number of very large mobile home parks that include attractions from swimming pools through to night time entertainment for both kids and families as well as excursions that are packed to the rafters during the peak holiday season that runs from around mid June to mid September plus half terms and for regular one off long weekend events such as 60's breaks.  Additionally Broads cruiser rentals are a BIG money spinner as are fully inclusive week breaks in what are a very nice choice of hotels and boarding houses.  Great Yarmouth is a very popular second and even third holiday choice for families and couples.

The message is simple.  BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME.

As was demonstrated up in Bride in the IOM the muppets here associate lodge parks with gypo’s and junkies coming to live next to their bungalows like it will be the new Soweto. Not with the massive middle class reasonably high spending tourism opportunity it actually is.

Rubbish - far better to target the 'slow tourism' market & encourage folks to enjoy the 'IOM Experience' without damaging the environment

Stone walls and dandelions don't fill bellys. The environment hereabouts benefits from mass tourism. It has resulted in great care being taken of the countryside plus farming subsidies fund preservation of SSSI. So does the global environment when air travel is not employed and local rather than imported foodstuffs are used.

Govt should encourage/help older 'private hotels' & B&Bs to develop a product to sell on AirBnB - apartments perhaps

Planning law is too restrictive & DfE isn't adventurous enough

sefton apartments........:whistling:

what a mess that was........

I don't follow your logic there at all, & I fear I never will
