When will the lies stop?

So now we know that no contract ever existed at any time and they were not contractually obligated to do anything. So it’s been shown that the DOI lied through its teeth (as usual) to get it’s own way to run it’s silly horse trams and almost bankrupt real people who were running proper businesses which pay tax on that stretch just so the likes of Mr Longworth could piss about playing with his cash burning horseys for another year. No surprises that nothing will be done either.

Are you saying then, it was a ruse and deliberate lies were told to manipulate the outcome in favour of an allegedly tram-obsessed individual director, rather than it be a plain old cover up to hide a catalogue of costly errors and unacceptable delay across the department that they should have fessed-up to in the first instance?

Looks like that to me otherwise why lie about the contracts existing when clearly they didn’t? The tram works pretty much held up everything and were totally unnecessary if the trams didn’t actually have to be run as we now find out.

It will be interesting to see how they spin the disclosure. Hat's off to the terrier-like determination of the papers and its FoI request. I stopped buying local rags a long time ago but I might just rush out and buy that issue as a token of my extreme.

If it is as you opine, the responsibility for such dishonestly and professional incompetence should fall at the highest level. But who'll be brave enough to point the finger. Who, in government, will support the taxpayer?

How long will Quayle remain commentless? It's an opportunity, a gift in fact, for him to gain some political and local kudos and give the impression (at least) of a strong leader by letting the axe fall.

Peter Karran (no, the other one) would've been all over this like a rash.

Will Quirkio give it airtime?

They'd better pull their proverbial pants up sharpish because there's a lot of arse-covering to be done...

There probably was a contract and it lapsed without anyone realising.

If so they're incompetent.

Not exactly "news" though is it...?

There was no contract. There are also no bus-and-population consuming voids (so far).

Personally, I think that all there is, was a totally underestimated job driven by pie in the sky dreams and the need to secure and justify employment for DOI upper echelons, if not egos, fuelled by an apparently bottomless pit of Govt money who on the other hand proclaim necessary fiscal measures imposing taxation strictures on the rest of the population.

Personally, I'm fed up with seeing my taxes squandered by these clueless, incompetent pricks. It's been going on for 20+ years. When is a line going to be drawn under it?

So many kids getting upset about this.

The " Bosses" always said that they felt obliged to keep the trams running as they had been advertised in many transport mags. What is wrong with that.

Nobody died, nobody got hurt. We have a very much loved tourist attraction in the trams, so why don't the childish moaners just STFU and live their own lives. ? ( if that is possible without the aid of an adult .

But people have got hurt. Some businesses have nearly gone to the wall. People have lost income, and some people have been laid off by their employers because of the mess they have created to keep trams that lose money anyway running. Then it’s revealed they they didn’t even have to run them!

The trams should have been moved to the home of rest on a small track, so that any anoraks who wanted to have their portly frames pulled around on a victorian "attraction" by some broken winded carthorse could do so and contribute to the upkeep of said nags! Instead we turn a large civil engineering project into a laughing stock and inconvenience everyone and incur no doubt substantial extra costs in the process! FFS not everything is heritage! some of it is outdated crap which has been replaced in other places by a modern tram system which we would have been far better investing in ! There is only a very small market for a few people wanting to see heritage transport attractions, at least the trains can transport people through the countryside! Get a grip FFS.

Are you SERIOUS?  This highlights nothing short of corruption. Corruption is binary. It either has taken place or it has not.

This should trigger resignations and one individual in particular.  Skelly.

Is the more important factor that for far too long a blatant lie was used to try to prevent ongoing investigation as to why decisions had been taken?  This has to be almost as bad as when that scoundrel Eddie Teare claimed that he had "ballance the budget" when all that he had done was to further raid reserves.

It's nothing short of institutionalised dishonesty across the board.

Was it not stated in Tynwald or the House of Keys by the Minister that their was a contract in place and it was essential that the horse trams run?

So we have lies and untruths being stated in our Parliament as a matter of fact? Is that OK? NO! It's not.

There needs to be an apology from the Minister to the members of Tynwald/House of Keys. There needs to be a full and thorough investigation to find out who provided the false information followed by their dismissal from Government employment.

It's find if they want to bluff and bullshit their way through running the horse trams, but don't lie and hold the tax paying public in contempt by claiming it was some kind of essential service up there with A&E and Schools.

Obfuscation and half truths have become the new norm, I refer you to the film debacle as a prime example and also MEA etc etc !
