grapevine confirmed. will be interesting to see what happens next - CABO to monitor itself?

We are told by our politicians that if we want business to invest in IOM we have to do our bit to save the climate.

Of more immediate concern to the politicians should be the situation concerning the functions of the Information Commissioner’s Office. If IOM cannot demonstrate the effective regulation and enforcement of the processing of personal data it could have serious consequences for business, particularly finance, when it needs to share personal data with businesses in GDPR compliant jurisdictions.

I hope our GDPR expert in the HoK is wise to the situation and doesn’t  let this slide like other issues.

Clearly our GDPR expert, our other politicians and those recruiting the new Information Commissioner are completely clueless as to the potential importance of the role to IOM business.

It appears, based on an IOM Today news item that they have advertised for someone who doesn’t have to be able to speak English, who can reside and commute from UK, and is able to start on 17 July, the date the job advert closes.

Obviously they have already picked someone.

A fiver says they have gone for an off-Island "expert".

From the same order paper as the extra £10 million for the landing stage...

"3. Appointment of Information Commissioner

The Chief Minister to move –

That Tynwald approve the appointment of Mr Stewart Haynes as Information Commissioner under schedule 2 of the Freedom of Information Act 2015 for a limited term of six months."

No explanatory memo on there so no one will have a clue who they are voting for, nor the public who the Cabinet Office want to appoint!

It’s amazing how a brief Google search (other search engines are available) reveals who he is and what his experience is as the top result.

Yeah, it’s all top secret innit.

Is that how you apply for a job? Just pop your name in an e-mail and say google me? You want Members of Tynwald to guess which guy they are picking?

Most appointments by Tynwald have CV's on the explanatory memorandum. In this case, given how the last IC left, you would think they would provide more information to Members if they want their vote.

A gent in the insurance industry from St Vincent and the Grenadines? Not exactly jumping off the page at us.

I doubt it's him (even if Ringy Rose thinks it is).  More likely to be this guy:

As he seems to have some relevant background recently and is self-employed and so available to take up the post immediately.
